If you think that everyone else in the world is an asshole and that you’re the only nice one, you’re probably the asshole. You see-

Reader: Did you just call me an asshole?

Oh no no, I was just trying to-

Reader: I do not appreciate being cursed at when I’m trying to read an important news article.

Well, I know but I was just trying to-

Reader: I shall report you to the police where they will hopefully impose a fine of S$5,000 on you.

That seems oddly specific but I do apologise, dear reader. My point is that if you find yourself constantly getting into arguments with everyone around you and think they’re to blame, well, maybe they’re not.

S’pore Actress Fined S$5,000 For Saying ‘F*ck The Police’ To Officer & ‘F*ck You’ To SMRT Employee

Melissa Faith Yeo Lay Hong, a former actress-model, was fined S$5,000 on Wednesday (4 Dec) for cursing at a police officer and an SMRT employee on two separate occasions.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges under the Protection from Harassment Act. Another two charges of abusing the SMRT employee and directing an obscene hand gesture at him were also taken into consideration.

So, what happened?

Spat with SMRT employee

On 21 Nov last year, Yeo approached an assistant station manager at Bishan MRT station to ask about past transactions on her EZ-Link card.

The victim gave Yeo the last two transactions, but she wanted more information and so he directed her to a general ticketing manager.

Yeo then bowed in appreciation for his help and went on her merry way.

Yeah, she didn’t do that.

Yeo headed in the direction of the ticketing machine but returned to the control station soon after and scolded the station manager.

Why? She said he gave her the wrong information and made her walk a distance away.

How dare he make her walk. What a monster.

Yeo then walked away and returned again a few minutes later to ask for a copy of the station’s feedback form. When the SMRT staff passed her the form, Yeo took it and then pointed her middle finger at him and said, “F*** you”.

Yeo also told him, “You are SMRT staff, you don’t have to be a d**k.”

Well, he did make her walk.

Fortunately, her actions were caught on CCTV.

Abused police officer

The second cursing incident occurred on 2 May 2019, at the Ang Mo Kio Police Division.

She’s one angry monster.

Yeo was speaking to a female police sergeant and scolded her, saying “Police useless! F*** the police ah!”

Woah, she said f*ck the police at a police station and to a police officer?

She has balls, I’ll give her that.

About an hour later, Yeo called the police emergency hotline ‘999’ and said, “I’m calling with regards to my IO (investigation officer), he’s a f***er”.”

Oh, she’s reporting a police officer through a police hotline. Not cool, my dear chiobu.

According to Yahoo SG, the operator repeatedly told her to calm down and mind her language and tone throughout the call.

But, as you can guess, she didn’t do that.

“Don’t tell me to calm down, calm down, calm down so that you can get away with your s**t,” she said in response.

She also insisted on speaking to a superintendent, in order to provide her feedback to an investigation officer.

Yeo’s Defence

Yeo’s defence lawyer claimed that she had been “assaulted” by her neighbour before the call, which made her anxious and explained her abusive behaviour.

“She was assaulted by her neighbour who knows where she lives. She was at that juncture anxious and quite uncomfortable by the fact that at any moment or juncture, the neighbour might show up,” the lawyer said.

However, State Prosecuting Officer Mohd Nasri Haron wasn’t having any of it, saying “There’s absolutely no excuse for the abusive language used on the police officer.”

For her actions, Yeo could have been jailed for up to a year, fined a maximum of S$5,000 or both for abusing public servants.

She should count herself lucky.
