S’pore Businessman Found Guilty of Hiring Hitmen To Disfigure Mistress’s Boyfriend

As a kid growing up in sunny Singapore, I’ve often heard my mum say this:

“Son, if you ever get married in the future, remember; never break your wife’s heart by keeping a mistress. It won’t end well.”

And when my dad’s around, he will snort.

“He can’t even take care of himself; how can he even get a wife? Don’t worry la, like what Stephy said… STEPHEN, I MEANT STEPHEN-”

Thereafter, as my dad faced a flurry of Wing Chun moves and Taekwondo kicks to his face and balls alike, I would think to myself:

“How will it end badly, exactly?”

Like this, perhaps?

Just yesterday (2 April), a businessman was found guilty of hiring hitmen to assault the lover of his mistress back in 2016, in the process disfiguring the younger man.

And yes, we’re talking about this happening right here in Singapore.

According to Channel News Asia, Businessman Lim Hong Liang, 55, was the boyfriend of former Miss Mermaid, 28-year-old Audrey Chan Ying Fang, whom he first met in 2014 and subsequently had an intimate relationship with.

He proved a generous ‘sugar daddy’ as well, gifting her luxuries such as a Mercedes-Benz C180 with a license plate bearing her birth year, a condominium unit at The Parc renovated into a “Hello Kitty-themed condo” for her, and the services of a maid.

Additionally, he allowed her the usage of his credit cards and covered all her household and living expenses while they were together, and even paid her a $2,000 monthly salary, hidden in the guise of an administrative executive position in his logistics company (she never actually showed up for work).

And what did he ask for return, you wonder? Well, apart from my personally speculated basic job scope of being a mistress (whatever that entails), the court heard that Lim simply expected her to be faithful to him and not “fool around outside”.

The irony is strong here, but let’s proceed.

A Bermuda Love Triangle

Unfortunately, despite Lim’s ‘well wishes’, it seems that his mistress has taken a leaf out of his book by dating an additional boyfriend of her own:

Banquet waiter Joshua Koh Kian Yong, 35.

And in a plot straight out of a film, Lim found out about it and became livid, intending to teach the man a lesson.

Commissioned hitmen to scar his mistress’ lover

The father of three children then paid hitmen to proceed with an attack on Mr Koh, who’s interestingly married to a Thai woman himself.

What’s this, a love square now?

Having paid the hitmen $5,000 to disfigure Mr Koh’s face with a penknife, Lim effectively headed a seven-person conspiracy that included his co-accused, mover Ong Hock Chye. Ong, 48, had proposed slashing Mr Koh’s face as opposed to Lim’s original wish to break Mr Koh’s hands and legs.

Twin attacks

The first attack occurred on 8 April 2016, while Lim was in China for a kidney transplant.

Ms Chen was with her lover Mr Koh in a bedroom at The Parc condominium when two men entered the entrance of the bedroom. One was Lim’s own older son, Jing He, and the other was Lim’s nephew Ron Lim De Mai.

Thereafter, Ron began to assault Mr Koh, raining punches and kicks upon him for 10 to 15 minutes while reportedly saying:

“I was sent here to kill you.”

After they were done, they took photos of Mr Koh with their phones, and Ron reportedly told Ms Chen to take Mr Koh, whose face was swollen and bleeding, to the hospital.

She went through with his instruction, only to realise upon returning to The Parc that all her branded bags and watches have been removed, an insight she later associated with Lim’s knowledge of Mr Koh.

Later that night, she reportedly received three Mandarin voice messages from Lim.

“What you did, was it right or wrong? You bring a man back to sleep when I go overseas. What you did was it right or wrong? I provided you (with) everything,” Lim said in one of the messages. They were later played in court over the course of the trial.

Second attack

After the first attack, Ms Chen and Mr Koh began camping in hotels instead. This manoeuvre, however, did not succeed as later that same month on 30 April 2016, Mr Koh was assaulted again, this time at an eatery in Little India.

Having dined with Ms Chen at Huay Kwang Thai Kitchen off Townshend Road for supper, he was cooking their food at the table at around 1:00 a.m. when someone punched him in the head.

Trying to flee, he was attacked again by another man and this time felt a sharp pain in his arm. Ms Chen reportedly saw her lover’s mouth “gaping open with blood” and dialled the police.

Again, Mr Koh was taken to the hospital, but this time there were lacerations over his lips caused by a single slash, as well as a laceration over his right tricep. There were also bruises on his face and head. A doctor later testified in court that there was a scar on Mr Koh’s mouth, that was unlikely to fade.

It seems that Lim has got his wish after all.

But at what cost?

In court, both Lim and Ong claimed trial to a single charge of conspiring to cause grievous hurt to Mr Koh. The offence is punishable by a maximum term of life imprisonment, fine or caning.

According to Channel News Asia, they will return to court for mitigation and sentencing on 17 May.

The other five people involved in this case, on the other hand, have been punished duly, receiving sentences of up to 14.5 years and with three of the men being caned.

Now if that’s not an incentive to do the right things in life… I don’t know what is.

Meanwhile, Netizens have slammed the trio, with some berating Lim’s rationality and others denouncing adultery altogether.

Though to be fair, one did shed a bit more light on Lim’s background.

Sadly, however, it’s really the present that counts.
