S’pore Istana Now Hiring Butler & Chef With Up To $2.5K Salary

Yes, you heard that right.

There’s now a way for you to get in with the right people. And it’s at the most prestigious house in the entire country: The Istana.

According to the ad put up by the Istana on the Careers@Gov portal, it’s a contract position for one to two years “for the first instance”.

Whether that will be converted to a permanent position after remains unknown.

What It Entails

The position will require you to provide hospitality and F&B services to Istana guests.

In addition, you’ll have to perform housekeeping duties as well as set-up for events and functions.

At times, you’ll also need to help out at the Istana kitchen, linen room, floral arrangement room, etc.

We take that to mean you’re probably not going to have that much free time there.

For those with relevant experience, you might just get the opportunity to lead a team of butlers and perform logistical and administrative duties.

Details:

• You must be a Singapore citizen to apply.
• Wage will be from $1,400 to $2,000, depending on whether you have relevant experience in the area.

Of course, it goes without saying that you’ll probably be heavily scrutinised and your background scoured carefully before you’re shortlisted.

But if you are shortlisted, you’ll be notified within 4 weeks time after the ad closes.

Several netizens seem to feel that the wage offered seems to be a tad bit on the low side.

While others felt the job might be too stressful.

Although one netizen pointed out that the place likely has leftover good food that the helpers might get to eat.

Unless SFA there and say cannot because of food safety.

Other Positions Open Too

One netizen pointed out that butler wasn’t the only position open at the Istana.

And that it pays better than a butlership.

Responsibilities:

• Plan daily menus, purchase ingredients and prepare excellent cuisines for various events.
• Ensure a high standard of hygiene in food preparation and cleanliness of the kitchen.
• Collaborate with Butler Teams as well as external caterers to ensure F & B is delivered efficiently at functions.
• Handle administrative work such as preparing claims for purchases and costing for menus.

Requirements:

• Singapore Citizen
• Able to prepare Western and Local cuisines.
• At least 2 years of working experience in a similar position
• Positive attitude, good team player.

The chef position comes with a higher salary range of $2,000 to $2,500.

While some might feel it’s a tad bit on the low side, you got to wonder if serving the president and visiting dignitaries will help pad up your resume.
