You know what they say about children –
Here she goes again
If you think that I am about to let loose my inner Robin Scherbatsky, you are terribly mistaken. Unfortunately, sleep deprivation and caffeine dependency has not been the best of combinations.
As such, this will be kept short and sweet.
Babies ought to be smothered with all the love in this world! There we go, now on to today’s report.
A 25-year-old man has pleaded guilty for threatening the safety of his son and for causing involuntary hurt to his wife. According to CNA, the incident had occurred on the morning of 2 September.
The suspect cannot be named because of existing gag orders from the court.
Man Had Grown Frustrated After Working Night Shifts
The man told the court that he had been trying to sleep on the morning of the incident. The man, who worked as cleaner, added that he had previously done a night shift.
He accounted that he was unable to sleep from the noises his infant child was making. Out of frustration, he scolded the boy and his wife.
He also threatened to ill-treat the pair.
Later during the day, the man ordered his wife to bring their son to bed where he laid. His wife refused but eventually gave in when he insisted.
Not long after, she heard the infant cry and rushed only to see him lying face down on the mattress. Her husband had been pressing his neck down.
Struggle Ensues Between Husband And Wife
The boy’s mother immediately rushed to her child’s aid.
According to court documents, she had frantically attempted to remove the baby from the mattress but to no avail.
She quickly called for help from her husband’s brother and her sister – who lived with the couple. The pair had also witnessed the act.
Out of desperation to save her child, she slapped her husband across the face. He let go of the infant and proceeded to punch her on the forehead.
Wife Runs to Neighbour and Reports To Police
She grabbed hold of her child and ran to a neighbour’s house where she left the baby before making a police report.
She told the police that her husband had tried to suffocate their son and that she had been attacked by him.
The woman and her baby were taken to the hospital. The pair escaped with minor injuries. She was treated for a bruise on her head while the baby was diagnosed with a non-accidental injury.
Should Have Exercised More Self Control
On Monday’s hearing, the suspect defended himself saying that he had been working long hours to support the family.
To which District Judge, May Mesenas responded, “you obviously should have exercised more self-control and restrained in terms of family violence towards your own family.”
She added that she would have to call for reports to assess if the man was fit for community service or day reporting.
The reports would also tell if the man ought to be given counselling to guide him on managing his frustrations and proper parenting.
The man will be returning to court for his sentence on January.
So folks, invest on some earbuds and catch those snoozes before they bite you in the butt.
