Welcome to another episode of Motivational Men!
This is where we explore stories of men that would not stay down despite life’s greatest blows, and men who would get back up without fail to stare life’s challenges in the face.
This is where we get motivations and inspirations for our own lives to do the deed you’ve always wanted to but has been held back by self-doubt and excuses.

This is where you realise the potential of human will and determination.
On this episode, we will be 46-year-old Singaporean, Kelvin Lim.
Struck by Stroke
Five years ago, Kelvin was preparing to go to work at home when he collapsed out of the blue.
After being sent to the hospital, the doctors found two ruptured blood vessels in his right brain and determined that emergency surgery was required.
This was a massive risk, as there was a 90% chance of Kelvin either turning into a vegetable or dying.
Despite the unpromising odds, his family went through with it.
Blessed by fortune, Kelvin managed to survive the surgery.
Down On His Knees
While he had survived the first trial, Kelvin had more incoming.

The aftermath of the surgery left him wheelchair-bound due to complications.
After being discharged from the hospital, he had to rely on his wife to take care of him as he would have troubles with his basic needs.
Kelvin claimed that he faced issues with incontinence and even going to the coffee shop near his house was a major inconvenience due to his mobility issues.
This left him down in the dumps in terms of self-confidence and esteem, feeling that “everyone was pointing their fingers at [him].”
Back On His Feet
However, being a Motivational Man, Kelvin did not let this keep him down.

Claiming that his business and family as his main source of motivation, he said: “If I don’t get a grip on myself, no one else can help me.”
Well said, Kelvin.
He spent three years focusing on physical rehabilitation and regained his regular movement abilities.
Kelvin then took it a step even further and started to exercise frequently in an attempt to lose weight. He stopped unhealthy eating habits and swam every morning and worked out in the gym in the evening with the help of a personal trainer.
Kelvin then eventually lost a whopping 20kg and gained a shredded body that anyone would be proud of.

To top it all off, he came in third at the Fitness Ironman 2018.
The Power of Human Will
Once again, we’re shown that there are truly no limits to the human will and nothing can stop a truly determined man.
If you’ve been having any excuses to stop yourself from getting in shape or changing your lifestyle to a healthier one, now’s the time to toss it out of the window.
If a stroke-suffering half-paralysed man managed to pull himself out of the pit and do it, so can you.
And so will I.
After I finish this Double McSpicy meal. Maybe next Monday. Or next year.
