One really shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. This has been repeated to death, of course, but there’s good reason for that. Would you feel threatened at all when you see a petite girl like this?
It’s very difficult to imagine this young woman, who only stands at 156cm tall, could be a pretty much lethal practitioner and trainer of Muay Thai.
She runs Encore Muay Thai Fitness, an all-female Muay Thai training gym. No kidding.
The Muay Thai gym used to be open for all, and she herself had experienced some minor stereotyping when there were male students. When the male students showed up and saw that she was the trainer for the day, they would scan her up and down.
Who wouldn’t? It’s not every day you see a small young lady as a Muay Thai coach, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s really attractive as well.
As time went on, Vivian Chan, the coach in question, slowly discovered many of her female students had been victims of being cheated of their love and money by men.
As she got closer to her students, many confided in her, which made her decide to change the direction of her gym.
And so the gym has now become an all-female gym, where she could create a safe space for women to recover, and build up strength, be it physically, emotionally or mentally.
Many of her students were shy and had lower self-esteem, and have grown to be more confident.
Vivian actually runs her gym alongside a sports clinic right beside it, as she had also studied Sports Science in university. When asked if she found the work tough, her reply was simple.
She said both Muay Thai and helping people with their pain are her passions, and it didn’t feel like work to her.
We need more of this sort of passionate people in the world. Everyone would be the better for it.
