If you’re a chronic Westworld fan, you might’ve heard of previous rumours linking the robot-themed show to the not-so-robotic sunny island we reside on.
And well, if you crave for Singapore to be a featured location on the American television series, for whatever reason only you can think of…
It seems that you might’ve just gotten your wish.
Because according to Mothership, the possibility of Westworld incorporating Singapore as a filming location isn’t just far-fetched…
But more or less… confirmed.
S’pore One Of The Filming Locations For Westworld, HBO Series Season 3
If you’ve been following HBO’s Youtube page, you might’ve noticed a little giveaway in a trailer uploaded on 19 May 2019.
This.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that’s none other than a brief scene of Singapore’s very own skyline, with the Maybank Tower and HSBC building in view.
Also, on 1 June 2019, Singapore-based entertainment agency Fly Entertainment actually posted a casting call on its Facebook page, calling for talents to join an HBO production.
Now, if you’re an up-and-coming actor looking to give it a shot in the global industry, I’m afraid to point out that the deadline’s long over. But if there’s any consolation, it’s that the listed casting director was a certain John Papsidera…
Who so happens to be the casting director of Westworld too.
Further revelations
Additionally, Ed Harris, who plays “The Man in Black” on Westworld, previously told Huffington Post that shooting for the third season’s supposed to commence in June 2019. And guess what?
The shoot dates for Fly Entertainment’s casting call fall on 1 to 9 July 2019, which happen to be about as close to the June 2019 date as you can get.
And to really nail that… nail in the coffin, a HBO spokesperson reportedly confirmed with our own newspaper maestro Straits Times (ST) on 13 June that…
Singapore will be one of the filming locations for the third season of Westworld.
So if you’re a Westworld fan who loves the Singapore skyline…
Your wish might’ve just gotten granted.
Westworld
For those unaware, Westworld’s an American television series that revolves around a futuristic park which allows its visitors to live out their fantasies through artificial consciousness.
The synopsis, according to Wikipedia, lies as follows:
“Westworld isn’t your typical amusement park. Intended for rich vacationers, the futuristic park — which is looked after by robotic “hosts” — allows its visitors to live out their fantasies through artificial consciousness. No matter how illicit the fantasy may be, there are no consequences for the park’s guests, allowing for any wish to be indulged. “Westworld” — which is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name — features an all-star cast that includes Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins and Golden Globe winner Ed Harris.”
For the record, Westworld first premiered on 2 October 2016 and has since spawned two entire seasons, with a third one due in 2020. It’s generally favoured by critics and the audience alike, with rave reviews on almost all platforms.
However, the show has been dogged by controversy on previous occasions before, with an entire 4-minute scene that threatened the very confines of cable television.
But hey, that’s a story for another time. 😉
