Singapore PHV Driver Allegedly Earns $12,897 in a Week
Are you feeling the pinch of the impending 9% GST imposition and considering a higher-paying job or even a second job to meet expenses? Becoming a Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) driver might be an option worth exploring. However, be aware that a high salary in this field often comes with significant sacrifices.
A recent viral post on SG Road Vigilante’s (SGRV) Facebook page featured a screenshot of a PHV driver’s earnings. This image revealed an astonishing weekly income of $12,897, which translates to over $1,300 per day.
To put this into perspective, a PHV driver’s income largely depends on the number of trips completed daily. ComfortDelGro Taxi reports that most drivers earn an average of $200 per day.
So, how does one reach the staggering daily figure of $1,300?
Insight into the Driver’s Earnings
The viral screenshot details the driver earning slightly over $12,000 with a total of 156 jobs in a week. This workload averages out to about 22 trips per day, assuming each trip lasts 30 minutes, equating to over 11 hours of work daily.
SGRV speculated that, with such earnings consistently every week, the driver might even rake in up to $30,000 monthly.
This has garnered concerned reactions from the public. Many have commented that the driver should take care of his health, urging him to prioritise rest and family time to enjoy his earnings.
Of course, it’s unknown whether this is true or not.
He is Not the Only High-Earning PHV Driver
Interestingly, this isn’t an isolated case of a PHV driver earning a high income.

Earlier this year, a Grab driver, Dorson Chua, revealed that he earned $11,000 in less than a month on TikTok.
He showcased four different pay slips with earnings of $3,334.95, $2,669.27, $2,811.78, and $2,547.93, totaling a whopping $11,363.93 for the month.
Before you consider switching your sedentary 9am to 5pm desk job for a PHV driver’s role, remember that such high earnings come with a cost. For example, Dorson Chua revealed in his comments that he does 30 trips in a day, likely working more than 11 hours per shift.
While the salary is undeniably tempting, working for long hours and dealing with a multitude of passengers could definitely make this job challenging.
