S’pore Policewoman Fulfils Childhood Dream To ‘Fight Bad Guys’; Carries 17kg Gear Daily

Living out your childhood dream sounds awesome, but we all know it’s usually impossible.

After all, no one has successfully become a banana in pyjamas, right?

But this woman right here is living hers every day.

Young Policewoman In The Force

Senior staff sergeant Siti Aisyah, 28 joined the force in 2011. She was previously a Ground Response Force Officer at Woodlands West NPC, according to Mothership.

Basically, a Ground Response Force Officer is one who patrols the streets in uniform, and would be the first to arrive when you call the cops.

She volunteered to join the Emergency Response Team (ERC) when it was set up in 2016 to deter the threat of terrorism.

For your info, that is different from a Ground Response Force Officer.

So simi is Emergency Response Team?

Simply put, they’re the heavily armed police officers whom you often walk past in the mall. Needless to say, they are most probably not there to shop. Instead, they’re patrolling to protect our little dot.

Though, that is not the only responsibility that they have.

“Physically And Mentally Challenging To Cope”

Unlike most girls who carry branded bags down the streets of Orchard Road, Siti Aisyah carries 17kg worth of gear every day when patrolling the streets.

Siti Aisyah revealed that she initially found it physically and mentally challenging.

However, after a rigorous basic course with other ERT officers to build up their endurance, the gear now feels like “second skin” to her.

Close Bonds With Team

The demands of this tough vocation can take a toll on someone. But for Siti, it drives her to constantly improve and break out of her comfort zone.

The close bonds that she has forged with her team also keep her motivated.

Reactions From Netizens

So, how did Siti (not your friend or our colleague) get into the news?

It all began when Mr K Shanmugam shared a post on 2 September 2019 featuring Siti Aisyah on Facebook. Since then, scores of netizens have been leaving positive comments.

Wah, she looks like she can kick some ass.

Needless to say, with her story out there, Siti has for herself more than a few admirers.

Others were impressed by her ability to carry the 17kg gear despite her small build.

As someone who has yet to achieve her childhood dream of making it big in Hollywood (let alone Singapore), I am definitely very inspired by her tenacity.

Good job, Siti Aisyah!
