Think Singapore has no place for musicians to make money? Think again.
31-year-old Steven Goh chose to take the unconventional career path as a busker, and has yet to look back ever since.
His connection with the saxophone began in an unexpected place – a funeral band.
Without any prior music experience, Steven learnt everything he knew from the uncles he was in the funeral band with. After falling in love with the instrument, he scrimped and saved before spending a whopping $1,000 on his first-ever saxophone.
That proved to be a worthwhile investment – on a good day, Steven earns up to $500 from busking alone.
He admits that on certain days he gets $20, but he has never earned nothing before.
When asked by STOMP for his inspiration, Steven cited American music legend Kenny G.
Which is why this netizen’s comment might be the praise to end all praises.
Surprisingly, netizens were largely supportive of his musical ventures.
Then there are the practical ones.
And as always, you have the butthurt people.
Just one thing you left out – you need talent too, bro.
