Singapore might be one of the top-performing countries in the world as far as passports and airports are concerned, but there’s one thing it’s not:

The city with the best street food.

Or at least, that’s what netizens are preaching after Singapore was ranked as the best city in the world for street food in 2019, according to a report by Ceoworld. In contrast, no city from Malaysia made the list of 50 cities.

Well, that’s awkward. Not even Penang?

Needless to say, the Internet has been driven abuzz by the revelation, and fans of Bangkok and Malaysia have had their say. Though really, it surely speaks volumes when…

Even Singaporeans are disclaiming the notion.

Anyone else getting serious deja vu vibes? *Cough* Nas Daily *Cough*

S’pore Street Food Ranked First In The Worl & M’sians Aren’t Very Happy

According to a report by Ceoworld, Singapore has been recognised as the best city in the world for street food in 2019.

Note: Ceoworld claims to be the world’s leading business magazine for higher management. Yes, nothing to do with food.

In the report, Singapore managed to overcome the likes of Bangkok, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh to claim the coveted top spot.

As mentioned earlier on, no city, I repeat no city, from Malaysia made the list of 50 cities.

And needless to say, netizens have been rather triggered.

Singaporeans included.

Triggereddddd

After looking through the report, the general consensus is that of disapproval.

Okay maybe that’s an understatement. Netizens were positively triggered.

Here, just take a look at some of the comments to have stemmed from the discussion:

Malaysians, for one, were really up in arms over the revelation.

And while Bangkok did manage to clinch a respectable 2nd place on the list, netizens were still unsatisfied with its placement.

Meanwhile, one tried to rationalise the ranking. Though in all honesty, the form of rationalisation involved isn’t exactly helping much in the debate.

As far as taste is concerned, anyway.

But if there’s one thing for sure, it’s that Singapore’s set for a real tourism boost.

And well, I don’t think the country will have any problems with that.

So… How Was The Survey Conducted Anyway?

According to Ceoworld, the ranking was conducted based on four parameters:

  • Number of street food vendors
  • Affordability
  • Number of street food experiences
  • Food hygiene

The survey was conducted over a total of three months from 18 July to 19 September this year, and it involved some 92,000 business travellers and 1,400 travel agents in 86 countries.

Numbeo was used to uncover the price of an inexpensive meal in a city, while data from UNICEF was incorporated to rank cities by food hygiene.

And So… What’re Your Thoughts On The Topic?

Because let’s face it: nobody’s opinion matters so much, as your own one. And so, here’s a rather pertinent question:

Do you advocate for Singapore’s dominance in the street food industry?

Or do you stand against it in this case?
