I love tofu. They’re healthy and nutritious. Plus they taste really great, especially when you put them on a hotplate.
The way it sizzles and bubbles. How its soft consistency seems to melt in your mouth when you sink your teeth into it. Bet you feel like ordering it now right?
Well, probably not after reading this:
S’pore Tofu Manufacturer Fined $3000 For ‘Widespread Cockroach Infestation’
How dare they horrify this cat. Scratch that, I’m horrified too. According to The Straits Times, a bean curd maker in Singapore was slapped with a $3,000 fine for ‘hygiene lapses and maintaining its premises poorly”.
How exactly did the bean curd maker, Dolford Manufacturing Pte Ltd maintain its premises poorly, you ask?
Well… I’m sure the title didn’t give it away but…
Our best friends the cockroach decided to pay a visit.
Dolford Food Manufacturing Pte Ltd
Dolford Food Manufacturing Pte Ltd is a company in Singapore that produces traditional “Chinese-flavoured products”.
According to a Facebook post by Singapore Food Agency (SFA), several lapses were identified by SFA during a routine inspection of their premises on 26 July 2019.
These ‘lapses’ were none other than, and I quote, “widespread cockroach infestation”.
Imagine a little extra… flavour to your favourite tofu.
If that’s not bad enough, there were also structural damages to the flooring, wall tiles and doors, hence this resulted in the pooling of water. In addition, they were also said to have “poor housekeeping”.
The penalty? Besides the $3,000 fine, Dolford’s license was suspended from 30 July 2019 to 7 August 2019 and all finished and semi-finished food items were thrown away with immediate effect.
Starting to wonder about the households who already purchased or ingested it.
Here is the facebook post by SFA:
Suspension Has Been Lifted
Suspension of any business is a big hit but thankfully, after the company took some time to improve the cleanliness of its premises and fixed the lapses, it is now up and running again.
Which means you can look forward to their delicious tofu with extra flavour.
