S’porean Got Stuck in JB Longkang for a Night After Trying to Retrieve Pouch

My mother considers herself to be pretty “happening” and “on-trend”.

After she had forced herself to watch the movie IT because “that is what young people are doing”, she told me to stay away from drains.

MAINLY because it is dangerous.

And definitely NOT because of the fear that there’s a clown down there waiting to kill her only daughter.

My mum: scared of clowns

Also my mum:

Well, this man here is clearly not scared of any clowns.

Singaporean Man Dropped Belongings In Longkang

A 40-year-old Singaporean man dropped his waist pouch in a massive longkang in Johor Bahru.

The contents of the bag must be really important if not he wouldn’t have tried to retrieve the pouch from the dirty canal.

In his attempt to get his pouch- which contained his phone and other important documents, he slipped and fell into the longkang.

Yikes.

Imagine falling into a muddy longkang.

Man Spent The Night

He had injured his leg when he slipped and fell.

So… he had no choice but to spend the night sitting in the 5 metres deep grimy longkang, according to China Press.

Guess you can say it’s a once in a lifetime kind of staycation.

Authorities Informed 15 Hours Later

The man fell into the longkang at around 12am on 25 September along Jalan Wong Ah Fook in JB.

However, the JB authorities were only notified of the incident at around 3.50pm, 15 close to 16 hours later.

An ambulance, fire engine and 10 rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene and the Singaporean man was rescued using a ladder.

He was also doused with water jet, presumably to wash off the mud from the longkang, and any of his broken ego.

Moral Of The Story?

While I have to admire the man’s tenacity and courage, I have to say that it wasn’t the brightest decision.

But truth be told, if that was me, I would have done the same thing too.

Sis here can’t afford to buy another phone if I drop mine into a longkang now.

I guess the best advice would be not to climb into a longkang.

Unless you are very sure you can get out uninjured or if you have a friend that confirm wouldn’t paitao you when you are stuck there that would be great.
