Netflix is cheap and convenient, but there’s nothing quite like watching a movie at the cinema.
Comfy seats, a huge widescreen, and a magnificent sound system. With the amazing technology these days, it can even feel like you’re in the movie sometimes.
But like many things in Singapore, watching movies in the theatres is not cheap.

10th most expensive
Whenever you see Singapore high on lists like “Most expensive countries to live in” and “The most expensive countries to buy a car”, you’re probably like, “Well, no shit”.
But would you be surprised if I told you that movie tickets here are one of the most expensive in the world?
No? Yeah, me neither.
According to a report by Picodi.com, Singapore came in 10th in a list of the most expensive movie tickets in the world at an average of $10 per ticket.
The most expensive country to catch a flick at the cinema is Japan at an average of $$16.70, while the cheapest is Mexico at just $3.40 a ticket.
When it comes to 3D films, however, Singapore is one of the cheaper countries, charging an extra 4% of the standard ticket price.
Germany, on the other hand, charges a whopping 45% extra for 3D films. Other countries like New Zealand, the Philippines, and Malaysia don’t have an additional charge at all.
Weekend prices
Unfortunately, unlike many other countries, it seems like Singapore doesn’t want its citizens to enjoy films on the weekends.

In most of the analysed countries, ticket prices stay the same on weekdays and weekends.
Singapore moviegoers, however, have to pay 50%Â more on the weekend compared to weekday screenings.
This includes Fridays.
Considering the fact that most people go to the cinema on the weekend, this is incredibly annoying.
So, if you want to watch the latest movies in at the cinema, you’re better off crossing the border and heading to JB, where tickets are cheaper, don’t carry an additional 3D charge, and are the same price on weekends.

But of course, that is if you can tahan the long jam there.
