Did you guys see the green buses yesterday? I am sure some of us took it too and just like anything new, there were mixed reactions. Let’s see what Singaporeans have to say.
Some seemed pretty happy with the new buses.
Friendly bus drivers
Some of them commended the politeness of the bus drivers. They said it made them more happy to get onto the bus and that it made the bus ride more enjoyable. I got a really nice lady too who said thank you to every customer who tapped their cards (let’s ignore the fact that we are giving our money here).
Refreshing colour
I have to agree with this one. It is pleasing to the eye to see a new colour rather than the usual red. Many netizens shared the same view, with one commenting that this colour was more “lush and vibrant”. Some even felt that this would make Singapore look more lively. Hopefully so, then perhaps we won’t be seen as the emotionless people the world thinks we are.
More frequent
Most agreed that the bus intervals were a lot shorter, some even having to wait for only 2 to 5 minutes. This shorter frequency has definitely been effective in helping commuters during the rush hour.
But some were not too happy.
Too slow
Though a few felt that slow was safe, a number of them felt that it was way too slow. One of the netizens commented that it was so slow that a cyclist overtook the bus. Well, that’s rough.
No charging ports
The only change here seems to be the colour. There were no USB ports or head rests that were proposed in the initial design. This has definitely disappointed a few who were looking forward to this.
Confusing
Imagine 3 bus services with the same number arriving at the bus stop. That’s bound to get you rooted to the spot for a minute or so. After all, we are so used to waiting 20 minutes for just one bus. Now with SMRT, SBS and Tower Transit all at your feet, it is a lot to take in.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Tower Transit seems to only have 10 green buses for now, and the rest will be brought into service later. Meanwhile, Tower Transit bus services are still using SMRT and SBS buses to accommodate the demand. Confused to see one bus service, 189, with three different type of buses? Me too!
It’s probably going to take a while before we see their true colours, red with rage or yellow with smiles, but for now, they seem to be doing a pretty decent job!
