Imagine a very sunny morning, with birds chirping and leaves rustling and all of that poetic material that usually goes on in a primary school student’s composition.

As you lay back on your headrest, you close your eyes and think:

“Ah, today’s Saturday.”

Grinning, you turn to your side.

“That means I can sleep in late today. Hurrah.”

But the unconventional occurred. All of a sudden, your phone is getting bombarded. Not by bombs or even literal bird shit, but something worse;

Calls from strangers.

And the worst part? They’re not stopping.

If the aforementioned idea sounds absolutely crappy, here’s the thing;

It actually occurred, and may still be occurring, to a rather unlucky individual somewhere.

So if you’ve finished the show, you would surely be familiar with a particular business card that has a number on it.

(But if you haven’t, let’s just say that a character would give a business card to another particular character. To prevent spoilers, I shall not specify who.)

Assuming that you are indeed familiar with it, however, you may have actually tried to dial the number on the card. Because why not right? After all, it would probably not go through anyway…

Or is that really the case?

Unfortunately, the call does go through, and it has led to rapid distress for the owner of the said number.

Apparently, though there were only eight-digit numbers stated on the card, the production team made the mistake of removing the first three numbers only.

Lest you’re unaware, the first three digits refer to a city’s area code.

As such, the rest of the numbers are entirely legit, and you will still get connected if you dial those digits.

Nightmare

Since the show’s premiere on Netflix on 17 September 2021, the owner of the number has received an endless influx of calls and text messages.

In fact, it has gotten to a point where his daily life has been affected.

According to him, he has had to delete over 4,000 numbers from his phone after the slip-up. Callers would reach out to him on a 24/7 basis, whether it’s day or night.

This would certainly make sense, considering how Squid Game is popular on a worldwide basis.

Unfortunately, the calls came with a distinct downside. They would drain the person’s battery, causing his phone to turn off.

Initially perplexed by his sudden “popularity”, he soon realised the true reason why after a friend told him about Squid Game’s success.

Resolvement

Thankfully, the relevant authorities have caught wind of the situation, and are currently working to resolve the issue.

Netflix is reportedly in contact with the person, and is collaborating with the production team, Siren Pictures, to fix the issue.

“We are aware of the issue and are working towards solving the problem,” Netflix and Siren Pictures said.

Thank goodness.
