Chinese New Year is around the corner!
And aside from the usual visitations and meals, it’s also around this time where new movies start to pop up.
Or more notably, when Jack Neo gets a chance to show his latest film.
But today isn’t about that. We’re here to talk about a movie of a series near and dear to many of our childhoods.
We’re talking about Doraemon.
To say that this blue robot cat has a following is an understatement.
Show this picture to almost anyone and they’d recognise it instantly. But for those who don’t know, Doraemon has a relatively simple plot.
He is sent from the future in order to help Nobita, a schoolboy who struggles in school and gets bullied often.
This aid often comes in the form of helpful gadgets that comes from Doraemon’s front pocket.
Nobita is Finally Married to Shizuka in the Latest Doraemon Movie That’ll Be Out on 4 Feb
However, no matter how the series has evolved over the decades, some constants remain.
One of them being Nobita’s best friend and crush, Shizuka. When they were young, Nobita had often “accidentally” appeared when Shizuka was bathing.
And in the latest movie, Stand By Me Doraemon 2, the trailer shows the two are seemingly getting married after what feels like forever.
Truly a giant step forward for future manga and anime historians.
However, Nobita is seemingly panic-stricken and travels to the past to meet his grandmother again, who passed away when he was only a kindergartener.
While she’s happy that he came back to see her, she also expresses that she’d like to see his future bride.
The trailer also shows future Nobita being unsure of himself, doubting if he is the right person to marry Shizuka.
He then meets Doraemon in the past and slowly starts to break down.
This takes place as a sequel, following the previous Stand By Me Doraemon movie. It is also largely based on the movie Doraemon: A Grandmother’s Recollections, released in 2000.
The movie originally released in November last year in Japan, after multiple delays due to COVID-19. It was also to celebrate 50 years of the series.
And for us, our wait is over, since the show is coming out on 4 Feb exclusively in Golden Village cinemas!
It’s not a very long movie, being barely over 90 minutes, so you can squeeze this one in before or after CNY visits too.
Just know that lots of people may have the same idea too. You might want to book your tickets soon.
And if you’re wondering how good it did, let’s just say that its opening week was one of the biggest in Japan last year.
