At Starbucks, I typically order my caramel macchiato or my caramel macchiato.
Yes, I’m boring but I choose to call it faithful.
That said, there appears to be some new Starbuck coffee flavours on the horizon that may just move me a tad bit.
Begin a New Coffee Adventure
Boldly calling it a “New Coffee Adventure”, Starbuck appears to be confident that their three new flavours will prove to be a hit among their aficionados.
First of it will be its Cascara Macchiato.
This is what their website has to say about it.
Inside each coffee cherry are the seeds we’ve all come to know as coffee beans. Cascara is the dried fruit of the cherry itself. It lends delicious, subtle notes of dark brown sugar and luscious maple. The new Cascara Macchiato combines freshly steamed milk with subtly sweet cascara syrup. The drink is then marked with espresso and finished with cascara sauce and a dash of Turkish coffee. Available hot, iced and blended.
If I’m not getting it wrong, this drink appears to contain elements of the discarded coffee cherry, aka Cascara, in the form of a sweet syrup.
A quick Google search indicates that consuming Cascara isn’t quite as uncommon as I might have believed.
It appears that Coffee cherry tea is a thing and you may have guessed that it is indeed tea made out of the coffee cherry itself, sans the coffee beans.
Now, whether this drink is still be be called coffee, tea or cotea is a question that I don’t have an answer for.
Or it could just be called yuenyueng.
Second on the list of Starbuck’s new stars is the Triple Citrus Cold Brew.
Their website has this to say about it.
Keep cool in the afternoon heat with the new super-smooth Triple Citrus Cold Brew. Sip on slow-steeped cold brew, with a kiss of lemon, lime and grapefruit. A delightfully refreshing treat.
As the name suggests, this drinks comes cold.
But of course, you can order one to go and heat it up back home should that be your wish.
Though with Singapore temperatures running up to 34°C, it’s akin to a death-wish.
That said “a kiss of lemon, lime and grapefruit” does indeed sounds delightful don’t you think?
Last but not least, there’s the Sakura Rose Mocha Frappuccino.
The new Sakura Rose Mocha Frappuccino is a glorious combination of rose, chocolate, milk and ice that’s topped with mocha sauce and pretty pink Sakura chocolate flowers. A drink that looks gorgeous and tastes like happiness.
While this hodgepodge of ingredients sounds exactly like the usual glorious mess which is a typical Starbuck’s frappuccino, there’s just something so delicate to this concoction from the name itself to the juxtaposition of its darker-coloured ingredients like the coffee, chocolate and mocha sauce alongside the lighter side of things in the rose, milk and pretty pink Sakura chocolate flowers.
This to me sounds the most promising of the lot, possibly because it’s making my mind wander off to a insta-worthy Japan 2019 blossom season.
Oh yes, if I hadn’t yet mention when these three new flavours will be released, it’s 20 Feb 2019.
Which is kind of like yesterday, folks.
Here’s the Starbuck’s store locator for your convenience.
So what are you all waiting for?
