A misleading design in a multi-story parking garage led to two cars plunging headfirst into a loading bay area. Both vehicles fell victim to what drivers thought was a small ramp leading to an exit but was actually a drop into the loading area.

Here’s what happened.
Incidents Spark Online Discussion
The latest incident occurred on 9 May 2025 at the StarHub Green building car park on Ubi Road 1. A netizen posted a video on Facebook page “Beh Chia Lor – Singapore Road”, showing a blue car that had fallen head-first into the loading bay area after apparently taking a wrong turn.

The post quickly sparked debate among netizens. Some blamed the drivers for not being careful enough, while others pointed to the car park’s misleading design.
Several comments revealed that a similar accident happened at the same building in late April, prompting calls for management to fix the issue.
Photos in the comment section showed a silver Mercedes that had “mistakenly entered” the same lower-level loading bay last month, landing in a position similar to the blue car in the video.
Management Installs Safety Barriers After Incidents
A Sin Ming Daily News reporter who visited the site on 15 May 2025 found that the lower level serves as a loading bay, while the first floor contains regular car and motorcycle parking spots.
The loading bay has about 4-5 parking spaces connected to the road entering and exiting the parking garage. Drivers who fell into the bay likely thought they could drive out to the street from that location.
An employee at a Malay food stall in the building’s first-floor food court told Sin Min Daily News that the incident happened during the lunch rush hour. “Later I heard they [management] brought people to install crash barriers afterward. Hopefully, similar accidents won’t happen again,” he said.
The building was constructed in 2008 and has 469 parking spaces. When approached, building management staff declined to comment, only stating that no one was injured in the incidents.

Other drivers interviewed complained about dim lighting and lack of signs in the parking garage but noted that crash barriers have now been installed.
A food court staff member pointed out that many office workers from nearby buildings come for lunch daily. Sin Ming Daily News previously reported that a 44-year-old had opened a fish head steamboat eatery in March 2025, attracting many driving customers.
Mr Chen (name transliterated from Mandarin), 46, who works nearby, said he occasionally has lunch there with colleagues. “From what I’ve seen, this parking garage is quite dark with no obvious signage, creating some risks,” he observed. “At least they’ve installed crash barriers now, which should help.”
The incident site is near a smoking area, but luckily, no one was hurt during either accident. One smoker interviewed said he only learned about the incidents from online posts and was relieved no one in the smoking area was injured.
A female employee working in the building added, “I think these were isolated cases, and now with the crash barriers in place, I don’t worry about safety while smoking here.”
