Man Molested Lady in Her Own House After She Allowed Him to Stay Overnight

Trust could, at times, prove to be a really risky gamble.

On one hand, if applied correctly, it could trigger the greatest of outcomes. Yet on the other hand, if applied wrongly…

It could be broken… in the worst ways imaginable.

Man Molested Lady in Her Own House After She Allowed Him to Stay Overnight

Wwhat was supposed to be a casual night out for a young woman soon turned into an absolute nightmare, when she was molested by her own friend.

The incident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. on 15 November 2019. The perpetrator cannot be named due to a gag order.

The Singaporean offender, 30, and the victim, 25, had been out for a night of drinks with other friends, before vacating the bar at around 1:00 a.m.

The victim then invited the rest, including the offender, to her home to hang out.

Apparently, one of the friends left at around 3:00 a.m., while the other crashed on a living room sofa.

Meanwhile, the offender asked whether he could stay overnight.

When the victim agreed, they continued their chat in the living room.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Daniel Ling, they talked about “spooning”, which happens to be a sexual topic.

After some time, they, too, fell asleep.

If they’ve woken up the next day happily, this article won’t have existed,

But alas, they didn’t.

Nightmare

Subsequently, the victim woke up, only to find the accused hugging her from behind.

Not thinking much of it at the time, she went off to use the toilet, before falling asleep in her own bedroom.

The door to the room, however, was not closed.

Not long after, the man woke up too, and shifted to her bed.

He then molested her for around one to two minutes, during which she failed to move away or make any sound.

It was only when he removed his hand that she dared to move away.

DPP Ling told the court: “Scared and frightened, the victim took the opportunity to roll away from the accused and faced away from him. The victim felt disgusted and outraged.

“Soon after, the accused’s alarm went off indicating that it was about 6.30am. The accused got up from the victim’s bed and left the (unit).”

The victim informed her boyfriend, who was studying overseas at the time, about the ordeal.

She went on to alert the police on 21 November 2019.

Sentencing

In court, DPP Ling pressed for a sentence of at least eight months’ jail, with up to three strokes of the cane.

The offence, he stressed, harboured skin-to-skin contact, and as such should be not be dismissed easily.

On the other hand, defence lawyer Lim Kia Tong pleaded for a six months’ jail sentence, with no caning.

He also stated that his client is remorseful, and that the offence was not thought out beforehand.

The offender will be sentenced on 23 December.

For molestation, he could face a jail sentence of up to two years and fine, or caning.

Despite the nature of the pandemic, 2020 has not exactly seen a dip in publicised molestation cases.

In September, a 48-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly molested a teenage girl on a bus in Toa Payoh.

Two other offenders were also arrested in the same week for sexual offences.

And in the same month, a 59-year-old cleaner molested a 12-year-old girl, under the pretext that he has “no woman”.
