If there’s one question that has definitely crossed everyone’s mind before, it’s whether or not anyone has attempted to steal the tablets that restaurants use for keying in customers’ orders.

However, one person in Singapore didn’t just think about it; he actually did it.

Just a few days ago, on Sunday (30 April) afternoon, a man stole an iPad Mini from the Rasa Rasa outlet at Block 278D Compassvale Bow, which is located in Sengkang.

And he even sat back down to finish his drink before leaving the premises.

Branch Manager’s Recount

When speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the branch manager, Yuslinda, explained that the store has seven iPad Minis that the store employees use to key in their patrons’ food orders.

Right before the incident, an employee had placed their tablet near the cashier before attending to other customers, allowing the man the chance to steal the tablet.

Based on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage provided by Yuslinda, a man dressed in an orange sports t-shirt first ordered a drink from the cashier.

After noticing that the tablet was left unattended, he brought the tablet back to his seat when no employees were paying attention.

Afterwards, he even placed the tablet and his other belongings into his bag as if nothing had happened.

He eventually left the eatery after finishing his drink, less than ten minutes after he stole the iPad Mini.

Only Realised that Tablet Was Gone When Closing the Store

Yuslinda added that the incident occurred at around 3.30 pm that day, but the staff only realised that one iPad Mini was missing when they counted the number of tablets while closing the store that day.

The staff then reviewed the CCTV footage, confirming that the iPad Mini had been stolen.

Apart from that, Yuslinda commented that the man did not seem like a regular customer.

She said he probably bought his drink from the eatery after playing badminton nearby that day.

She disclosed that he bought a drink worth $1.60 and that the store was not crowded at that time since it was Sunday and Hari Raya Puasa had just ended.

40 CCTVs Installed Within and Outside the Premises, Store Name is On Back of Tablet

Yuslinda also revealed that 40 CCTVs are installed within and outside the store’s premises.

This meant that all of the man’s actions, including how he walked towards the direction of Buangkok MRT Station, were captured.

As of now, the store has yet to retrieve the lost tablet.

According to Yuslinda, she tried to use the iPad Mini’s “Find My” service to locate and report the tablet as lost.

Despite this, she has yet to find the location of the tablet.

However, the words “Rasa Rasa” are engraved on the back of the iPad Mini, making it evident that it belongs to the store.
