Paedophilia is never alright and it’s even worse when the perpetrator is someone in the family.
The harm it can cause to a child is irreparable, especially when they are young enough to still be impressionable and yet old enough to know that what was done to them isn’t right.
In this case, a 10-year-old was molested several times by her 27-year-old step-uncle, the younger brother of the child’s stepdad, within a 6-month time period.
Thankfully, a primary school teacher managed to put a stop to it after she spotted a “weird” wish that one of her students wrote down while accusing her step-uncle of the indecent act.
Teacher saved her student from being continually molested by her step-uncle
When the victim was just 10 years old, she was tasked by her school teacher to write down her three biggest wishes in their weekly journals.
What she wrote shocked her teacher.
She wrote that she hoped her family can become wealthy so she could accuse her step-uncle of molesting her.
Intuitively, the teacher knew this is real and serious.
She immediately reported the issue to the school counsellor and contacted the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
The teacher also brought the young victim to the police station the next school day to make a police report.
An opportunistic paedophile
According to the report, the victim told the police that she was molested three times between January and June of 2018.
In one instance, the step-uncle took her to meet some friends.
When they came back home, the victim’s parents weren’t at home yet, and her step-sisters and the maid were already asleep.
The accused received a message from his brother that he and his wife were on the way back home.
He then took the opportunity to touch her chest after getting the victim to go to sleep on the sofa.
He also carried the victim to her bed, but before leaving the room, he molested her yet again.
Both her step-sisters were sleeping just a short distance away when that happened.
The victim was awakened from being molested but she didn’t know what to do so she faked being asleep.
However, the damage was already done to the poor child.
After the incident, she lost her appetite and couldn’t concentrate at school.
She has also turned to self-mutilation and has attempted to kill herself by getting overdosed on pills.
Hefty penalties for molesting a minor
The accused currently faces three serious charges of indecent assault.
Initially, he pleaded not guilty but prior to the trial, he changed his tune.
However, he only admitted to one of the charges.
The judge deliberated on the case, and on 16 June, he sentenced the 27-year-old to 22 months in jail and 3 lashes of the cane.
