Yeo’s is a pretty popular brand in Singapore, especially among older people.
I mean, every Chinese New Year, you’ll probably find yourself drinking this at your grandmother house.
But what if, what if, there’s black sticky stuff allegedly in Yeo’s Chrysanthemum tea?
Black Sticky Stuff in Yeo’s Chrysanthemum Tea
That’s what someone filmed and uploaded online, which went viral almost immediately.
Which makes sense because, with packet drinks, you can never see what’s inside. The only time you’ll realise something is wrong is when it’s already in your mouth.
The video showed a man opening up packets of Yeo’s Chrysanthemum drink, presumedly from Malaysia, and pouring them into cups.
A male voice could be heard in the background saying that the drink isn’t safe for consumption. Especially for kids.
At the end of the video, the man told viewers to always be wary of packet drinks and to pour them out of the carton before they put it into the mouth.
If not, you could be swallowing gross stuff and not know it goes unsaid.
Yeo’s Denied The Incident & Said They’re Child-Friendly
“In response to the video shared through various social media platforms regarding our chrysanthemum tea, Yeo Hiap Seng (Malaysia) Berhad (“Yeo’s”) has taken immediate steps to test samples taken from the same production batch as well as to review our production records of the same batch as shown in the video.”
They said that they’ve conducted Quality Assurance tests of the samples and did not find anything that resembled the product conditions in the video.
The tests also “affirmed safe consumption” of its product.
The manufacturing processes and quality control were also reviewed and they’ve determined that it was all done in “accordance to standards”.
They added that they had been trying to get in touch with the consumer in the video.
They are urging the man in the video to get in touch with them either through their Facebook page Yeo’s Malaysia, their customer care line at 1300 80 2828 or speak to their Public Relations Manager, Ms Janice at 03 55228 189 as soon as possible.
Manufactured Under Stringent International Quality and Food Safety Standards
Yeo’s Malaysia made sure to emphasise that their products are manufactured under strict “international quality and food safety standards”.
“Our factories are certified with HACCP Food Safety management systems and all stages of our production processes are subject to rigorous quality control procedures.
“We are confident of our food manufacturing and handling standards and we welcome regulators to inspect our production facilities at any time.
“We truly value consumer feedback as product quality and consumer safety are of utmost importance at Yeo’s.”
Well, once again, it’s one man’s words against a company. Who’s right and who’s wrong?
