The initial plan was to continue holding physical meet-the-people sessions, albeit with extra precautionary measures.
But it appears that the itinerary has since been tweaked.
Following yesterday’s (14 May 2021) nation-changing revelation, the Worker’s Party (WP) has put forth an announcement of their own:
All physical meet-the-people sessions will now be scrapped for the time being.
WP to Stop Physical Meet-the-People Sessions After New COVID-19 Measures Were Announced
According to Channel News Asia, the Worker’s Party (WP) has announced that in light of the Government’s latest announcement, they will be suspending all meet-the-people sessions.
Much to the chagrin of local oppa Jamus Lim’s many fangirls, I’m sure.
“In view of this, the Workers’ Party MPs have decided to postpone all Meet-the-People sessions until further notice,” it said in a media statement.
“We seek your understanding and request that you email or get in touch with us at our public contact numbers.”
It has also encouraged residents to comply with the new measures.
“Together, and with everyone’s co-operation, we will get through this period as one united people,” it said.
According to the news report, the WP conducts such sessions for Aljunied GRC, Hougang SMC and Sengkang SMC.
In the absence of such physical sessions, concerned Netizens are advised to link up with MPs through electronic means.
As for those who’re less tech-savvy, no feasible solution has been offered just yet.
New Measures
Just yesterday (14 May 2021), the relevant authorities dropped a hefty truth bomb on us:
In light of the recent spike in cases, they will be reinforcing pandemic-related measures… again.
Lest you’re unaware, the new rules are as follows:
- Reduction in group size from 5 to 2
- Reduction in event numbers
- Working From Home is now the default working scheme
- Masks have to be on even when you’re indoors
- Increased need for testing
They will be kicking in on 16 May 2021.
The revelation has also seen establishments such as educational institutes imposing new and enhanced measures.
The tourism industry has also encountered setbacks, with the new hotel and tour restrictions.
Hotel bookings that fall between 16 May and 13 June will be eligible for a change or refund.
