Winter is a cold and harsh time for all, especially for those who don’t have warm and cozy homes to go back to.
In such times, hearing about the kind deeds and sweet incidents that warm the heart are helpful in bracing the freezing weather, and not just drinking a cup of hot chocolate while watching Frozen 2.
Sometimes, the most heartwarming stories can come from the behaviour of animals instead, those precious furry friends of ours because us hoomen are just too evil for these kind of stories.
A Warm Embrace
In the midst of the Canadian winter, a woman was driving on the road in Ontario when she came across an unexpected sight.
The lady found a German Shepherd laying at the roadside covered in snow with five little orphaned kittens huddled in her embrace too, in an attempt to protect them from the cold.
Aww, what a darling!
They were then brought to the Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) shelter shortly after by the nice lady who found and saved them – bless her soul.
Happy Family
But wait… a big dog protecting little kittens? Don’t dogs and cats always fight?
Well, no, not always – that’s just a stereotype.
In the warm comfort of the shelter, the doggy still continued to protect her “babies” even though they’re not of her own brethren, like the sweetheart she is, as shared by the PAWR shelter on their Facebook page.
Look how tiny and cute they are, no wonder she felt a motherly instinct to protect them!
So wholesome.
Hello, Serenity
Now the story just gets more uwu-worthy.
PAWR shared on their Facebook page that the lovely German Shepherd’s name is Serenity, along with a photo of her looking absolutely beautiful and peaceful, fitting of her name.
She was described as being “obviously great with cats and would have no problem going to a home that has cats in it” and the 2-year-old doggy loves “zooming around outside”. How adorable!
Many have already sent in applications to adopt Serenity as well, and she will be ready for adoption after 3 Dec when she is spayed.
This leaves a very important concern – will she be adopted together with her family of baby kittens?!
Apart, But Not Forgotten
Sadly… Serenity will be up for adoption first without the kittens, for they are still too young to be on their own yet, and waiting for them to be ready would deprive Serenity’s chance of entering a forever home of her own for a few months, as PAWR has explained.
NOOOOOO.
I believe that they’ll always be together in heart even though they’re separated.
Here’s hoping that Serenity and the kittens will find owners that will truly cherish them in a warm and loving forever home, even in winter!
