Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is set to get a new campus at the former site and vicinity of Rochor Centre.

Its completion is expected to be by the mid-2030s, as announced by the Ministry of Education on 6 March 2025.

The new centrally located campus aims to enhance accessibility for both full-time students and working adults seeking further education. It will accommodate about 40,000 students across all its programmes, up from the current 31,000.

Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing revealed the plans during the Ministry of Education’s Committee of Supply debate.

He stated that the current arrangement of SUSS being spread across multiple rented premises, including its main location at Clementi, is not ideal.

Campus Features and Benefits

The new campus will be equipped with modern teaching facilities to support face-to-face experiential learning and enrich students’ campus experiences. Staff and researchers will benefit from improved infrastructure and technological tools designed to support their evolving educational and research needs.

SUSS expressed excitement about the new location, stating, “Rochor is more than just an address. It’s a chance to shape our identity in a vibrant, dynamic neighbourhood.”

The new SUSS campus is expected to strengthen the university’s ties with industry and the community, improving access to opportunities for learning and growth.

Its central location will facilitate deeper connections with industry partners and neighbouring communities, fostering knowledge exchange and better serving the needs of the people.

Academic Offerings

SUSS offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programmes across five schools: S R Nathan School of Human Development, School of Business, School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences, School of Law, and School of Science and Technology.

Since becoming an autonomous university in 2017, SUSS has seen around 22,000 graduates. The new campus will play a crucial role in accommodating the university’s growing enrolment and furthering its mission to provide lifelong learning opportunities.

Student Demographics

SUSS caters to a diverse student population, with an average age of 30 for undergraduate students. The university has about 13,200 part-time undergraduate students and 4,100 full-time undergraduate students.

Given SUSS’s focus on flexible learning, many students, especially part-timers, don’t attend campus daily.

Full-time students typically have classes three to four days a week, while part-time students might visit campus once or twice a week for evening classes or weekend sessions.

While the cost of the new campus has not been disclosed, a SUSS spokesperson stated that the project is at a very preliminary stage and the cost would depend on many factors.
