If you saw your employees’ productivity levels decrease this month, here’s probably why. According to a research study from 1111 Job Bank based in Taiwan, office employees are seen to spend an average of 1.3 hours per day playing the popular game app, Pokemon Go.
It was shown that among all workers in different industries, the highest percentage of employees going Pokemon hunting during work are staff from the information technology sector with a 22.78 percentage.
Because of their line of work, it’s hard to limit workers and control them from being diverted to the game. While it’s ok for employees to take a break, 1111 Job Bank associate general manager, Henry Ho, was concerned and warned office workers to draw a line between being diverted and distracted.
Even though many work rules have been created to limit employees from being distracted away from their work tasks, 33% of employees still do choose to play the game whenever they can.
66% of people who were surveyed said that they only played the game near their home while 37.86% played the game at any chance they got.
The study also showed that most Pokemon Go players were in the age gap of 21 to 25 years old, with the next age period of 26 to 30 years old. When asked why they chose to play the game, some mentioned that it allowed them to relive their childhood, that it was entertaining, inexpensive and a convenient method to rid stress in the workplace.
Seeming like it’s a great way to be stress-free, it has been said that the game helped garnered positive effects including the increase in socialization, deepening of relationships and friendship bonds and going outside more often.
Some employees have cited negative effects after playing the game continuously, including stiff necks and shoulders as well as damage to the eyes. So do play the game with a limit, everyone!
