As a kid growing up, most of us would have been showered with love and warm wishes from our parents on our birthday.
Even now, many of us still love receiving birthday greetings, especially from the people we love the most…or when you didn’t turn off the birthday notifications on Facebook.
This is probably why a Taiwanese man who was dying of liver cancer made sure to prepare enough birthday messages for his daughter so that she would get a new one every year till she turned 20.
Before anything, you might want to prepare some tissue paper.
In a Facebook post uploaded on 7 October, a user called Bella Chu shared the story of how her husband had prepared 19 letters for their daughter just one month before he succumbed to his illness.
This was back in 2006, when their daughter was just one year and four months old.
Bella talked about how her husband continued to tirelessly write the letters despite the physical weakness he felt in his last days.
He continued to write the letters because he wanted to pen down his all of hopes and dreams for his daughter before he left.
Now, in 2019, Bella’s daughter is 14 years old.
Seeing that her daughter is of an age where she is able to understand what her father’s words mean, Bella decided that it was the right time to pass over the letters that she has kept for her all these years.
Bella’s daughter is currently attending junior high at a boarding school. However, despite her daughter being away, Bella has never read the letters left by her husband for her, nor did she ever plan to since the letters were meant specifically for her daughter.
In her Facebook post, she addressed her daughter and told her that her father passed away too young but have left these words for her.
Bella also expressed her hopes that her daughter will “use her heart to listen to what he wanted to say”.
I’m not crying. You are.
We hope Bella’s daughter will enjoy reading the beautiful words that were left especially for her by her father.
And I guess this is just a reminder to always listen to our parents with all our hearts, even if their words are not penned down in letters that are left for us.
