Taiwanese Tourist Fined S$66 For Wearing String Bikini In Boracay

Ever since Borocay reopened its shores a year ago, the Philippine Government has taken measures to ensure that the beach remains clean, white, and beautiful.

This includes a ban on parties, drinking, and smoking on the beach.

And it seems like baring too much skin is not allowed, either.

Taiwanese Tourist Fined S$66 For Wearing String Bikini In Borocay

One Taiwanese tourist discovered this when she was fined 2,500 Philippine pesos (S$66) for wearing a string bikini on the beach.

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, she was summoned to the Borocay police station after photos of her wearing a two-piece string bikini on the island went viral on social media.

“It was literally just a string”, said Maj. Jess Baylon, police chief of Malay town.

The female tourist, in her 20s, wore a white string bikini on Wednesday (Oct 9) and a red one the next day. Both were of a similar cut.

“Several residents and tourists took photos of her on Wednesday and Thursday because of what she was wearing” said Maj. Jess Baylon.

These photos then went viral on social media, catching the attention of The Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group. They then ordered the police to find the tourist.

The police found the tourist’s location and brought her and her boyfriend to the police station on Thursday (Oct 10).

“A form of expression”

The tourist told police that she saw nothing wrong with her outfit, and said it was merely a “form of expression and of feeling comfortable with her body”.

She added that she often wears it in Taiwan.

You can be the judge of this. Is this too skimpy for a beach?

OK, I know what you’re going to say. HOW CAN I BE THE JUDGE IF I CAN’T SEE THE DAMN THING?! Well, in my defence, this is Goody Feed and not a softcore porn website. So, you’ll have to do your own research.

As with every issue on the internet, netizens were divided. Some thought it was perfectly fine and some found it indecent.

Others didn’t care much about the matter but simply read the article in the hopes of seeing pictures of the scantily-clad tourist.

I personally think it’s fine. I mean, it’s not like she wore this to a job interview for a preschool teacher’s position. It’s a beach. One could argue that the man behind her in a red POLO T-shirt with sneakers is less suitably dressed.

The authorities certainly thought otherwise, giving her a citation ticket and fining her S$66 based on a “provision of an ordinance prohibiting the taking and display of “lewd” photographs”, reported the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Speaking to Palyan News, Balyon said “Maybe it is her way of expressing how they appreciate the island and the beauty of her body, but in our conservative culture, this is unacceptable”.

What do you think?
