Tampines residents, if you live near Tampines Mall and cannot live without having an H&M outlet nearby, I’ve got bad news for you.
The outlet at Tampines Mall is reportedly going to close down by the end of Aug 2020.
Facebook Page, Singapore Atrium Sale, uploaded this image on 18 Aug 2020.
It allegedly showed a sign placed on display at the Tampines Mall outlet, announcing the outlet’s permanent closure from 31 Aug 2020.
With this closure, Tampines residents who want to do their shopping at H&M outlets would have to either go online or visit the nearest outlets at Waterway Point, Nex or Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ).
H&M At Tampines Mall
Back in 2015, the H&M outlet at Tampines Mall is the brand’s 9th outlet in Singapore and the first in the east.
Not just that, the outlet is also a duplex store with a floor space of 19,500 square feet.
Let’s just say that it first opened, the anticipation and excitement was unbearable, especially when the store carries David Beckham-styled fashion.
Based on the H&M’s store locator, with the closure of the H&M outlet in Tampines Mall, the brand will be left with 10 outlets in Singapore.
Closure Of 170 Stores Worldwide
Back on 7 Jul 2020, H&M announced that they will be closing 170 stores across the global market due to Covid-19.
The global retailer reportedly has around 5,000 outlets worldwide.
The company is also reportedly cutting back on new store openings.
Instead, they are going to focus on their online store given consumers’ changing shopping habits.
This is the results that they had back in June 2020:
- Net sales plummeted by 24% between 1 Dec and 31 May, and 50% during the second quarter of 2020
- Online sales, however, increased by 32%
Don’t worry about having no physical H&M outlets though because the company mentioned that it’s important for them to have “physical presence” in the “right places”.
