What happened?

73YO Cabby Stepped on Wrong Pedal & Crashed His Taxi Into a Drain

Zaobao has the answer.

According to the Chinese Daily, it happened this morning (10 June 2020) at about 10am at Whampoa Drive, which is next to Whampoa Hawker Centre.

The driver had then just driven out of a carpark.

He allegedly felt unwell and had accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal, which propelled the car towards the 3-metre deep drain.

In another video, a TP officer is seen escorting the driver out of the taxi, who can still walk.

According to eyewitnesses, he could still talk as well.

He was then sent to Raffles Hospital via an ambulance.

Senior Drivers Undergo Medical Examination Every Three Years

In Singapore, drivers who are 65 and above would have to take a medical examination for the Traffic Police every three years to assess their fitness.

Currently, drivers above the age of 65 have to take another medical examination for Land Transport Authority (LTA) to get their Taxi Driver Vocational Licence (TDVL).

But by the end of this year, the LTA and TP would be working to allow senior drivers to use the LTA medical examination results for the TP medical examination results.

But of course, they’d still have to take the TP medical examination after three years again.
