Not many people go around smashing taxis with their helmets, so it caused quite a stir when a video of a man doing just that popped up on social media.
Allegedly upset that a cabbie had honked at him, the man followed the taxi driver and his two passengers (who were carrying a baby) and started shouting and circling the taxi.
The bizarre incident culminated in the biker smashing the taxi’s side mirror with his helmet, before riding off.

Unfortunately for the man, his actions were caught on camera, and he’ll now have to face the consequences.
Charged For Rash Act; Also Being Investigated by CNB for Drug Offences
The man, identified as Joel Tan Qing Wei, was charged today (14 October 2021) with one count of committing a rash act.
Besides the helmet smashing, it’s believed that Tan threw a rear windscreen wiper at the windscreen of the taxi, causing it to shatter when the passengers and cabbie were still in the taxi.
In a statement on Tuesday (12 Oct), the police revealed that Tan is also being investigated for mischief, using threatening behaviour, and failing to wear a mask in a public place.
In addition, he’s currently being investigated by the Central Narcotics Bureau for drug offences.
If found guilty of committing a rash act endangering personal safety, Tan faces up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to $2,500, or both.
What Happened
The incident is believed to have occurred at a service road near Block 804B, Keat Hong Close, at around 6:05pm last Sunday (10 Oct).
Two videos of the incident were shared on social media.

In the first, which was taken by one of the passengers, the biker can be seen slamming his fist on the cabbie’s window with a loud thud, while cursing at him.
He circles the cab like a shark, continuing to fling every expletive known to humankind at the taxi driver, who doesn’t retaliate.
As the man gets more aggressive, the couple grows increasingly worried, and understandably so, as they had a baby with them.
So, they make a call for assistance, presumably to the police.

“There’s someone very aggressive with my taxi driver”, the passenger said.
Speaking on the phone, the passenger said the motorcyclist had just smashed the cab’s car window and urged officers to come quickly as he had a baby with him.
In another video that provided a bird’s-eye view of the incident, we can see how the incensed biker smashed the cab’s side mirror with his helmet, leaving it shattered on the road.
The caption which accompanied the video claimed that the man was upset after the cabbie “lightly honked” at him.

Yup, that’s a perfectly reasonable reaction.
