Taxi Ramped Into the Back of a Motorcycle But Netizens More Concerned About Cars & Pedestrian Crossing the Road at the Same Time

Since young, you’ve probably heard the same thing a dozen times in your moral education classes: Don’t jaywalk. Jaywalking is bad.

Regardless, you’ve probably done it a few times.

We all know the first reason why we shouldn’t jaywalk—because you could get yourself into an accident.

Here’s another pretty obvious reason: you could cause an accident yourself.

Taxi Crashes into Motorcycle after Latter Stops for Jaywalking Pedestrian

On Thursday (24 June), a video was uploaded on Singapore roads accident.com’s Facebook page, featuring an incident that took place along Thomson Road, in an area seemingly under heavy construction.

No other details were given.

In the video, a woman can be seen crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing. According to the comments below the post, she was allegedly jaywalking when the traffic lights were showing a red man.

A motorcycle at the head of the incoming traffic on the right lane can be seen stopping for the lady to cross. However, in the next moment, a taxi can be seen suddenly jerking forward and ramming into the back of the motorcycle, as the woman then hurries across the pedestrian crossing.

In the video, the cyclist can be seen falling off their motorcycle after the crash.

Given the quality and angle of the video taken, it is unclear whether the taxi had been bumped by the car behind it, or whether the driver had accidentally pressed on the accelerator, thus causing it to jerk forward.

Netizens Criticise Tailgating Behaviour and Woman for Jaywalking

It seems like most of the netizens in the comments felt like the woman was at fault, with a few also criticising the taxi driver for the lack of a safe following distance.

“Jaywalkers! It is very dangerous to stop in the middle of the road for these inconsiderate jaywalkers who are crossing since they are not liable for any accident,” commented one Facebook user.

To be fair, the motorcyclist had two options: either knock down the pedestrian and get jailed, or stop and risk getting knocked down himself.

In another comment, another Facebook user wrote that it was “best to apply safety distance for braking allowance” just in case the “car or motorcycle in front have to brake”. He added that this what all drivers “learnt from basic theory”.

“It was green for traffic and red for pedestrian yet she still cross[ed]…” commented another user.

Netizens Also Point Out that Cars on the Left Lane Continued to Drive Even While She Crossed

Another netizen pointed out that the “cars in the left were driving through while she [was] crossing”.

In the video, a silver car on the left lane can be seen driving across the pedestrian crossing even while the woman crossed the road. However, the bus behind the silver car stopped.

While the car’s driver may have continued thinking it was technically their right of way, some netizens have also pointed out the driver’s dangerous behaviour.
