Life in the limelight can be heart-warming when fans shower celebrities with love and support.
But too much of it can turn the experience sour.
Fan Tried to Join Basketball Games
Local actor Tay Ping Hui recently shared that he is receiving some unwanted attention from a male fan and called out his harassment.
The fan had pretended to be an alumnus from Tay’s school and reached out to his friends, asking to play basketball together.
“Basically he wanted to know when we would play and then appear at the same place,” the 51-year-old actor told Shin Min Daily News.
“Stop Wasting Time”
Tay criticised the fan’s actions, saying he hopes that the harassment will stop.
“There are many other things in this world to pay attention to and care about, please don’t waste time on people of no significance. If you can, pay more attention to those around you, especially your parents. I’ll give you my blessing,” Tay said.
He then added that he is “just an actor” and there was “no point” doing such things for him.
Additionally, Tay also mentioned that he has actually met the fan before and tried to persuade him to let go of his obsession.
“I feel very helpless… I hope fans don’t waste time doing such meaningless things,” he remarked.
He stressed that he would not hesitate to call the police if the man’s actions get out of hand — which is what the actor did six years ago after a suicide note incident.

Not the First Time
In 2016, a male fan surnamed Luo sent a note containing suicide threats to Lianhe Zaobao, saying that he wanted to meet Tay.
The note, which was written in Mandarin, reportedly had bloodstains and said, “I miss you every night, I can’t sleep or eat because of you, this feeling is like loving someone to the point of infatuation.”
Luo also wrote, “If only I have a confidante by my side. How nice it would be to have someone support me mentally and care for me. Unfortunately, that’s not meant to be. I don’t have the good fortune to be your friend.
“This blood that runs through my veins isn’t worth anything. I’m willing to leave this world in anticipation of a better world ahead. I am grieving but I hope that you will see me often in your dreams.” Shivers.
Understandably, Tay would be concerned for the safety of his family and friends, especially since he believes it is the same fan who is harassing him once again.
So fans, please keep your adoration to yourself and learn to respect your celebrities.
