When you hear the words “Silicon Valley”, you’d probably think of a certain comedy TV show or that place in California home to many start-ups and global technology companies.
But we may soon have our own mini Silicon Valley here in Punggol.
Back in 2018, the authorities announced their master plan for the Punggol Digital District, a 50ha centre for digital and cyber-security industries.
It was said that the new district would generate 28,000 digital economy jobs in the future, something which excited many residents here.
Well, it seems that some companies are already setting up base there.

Good News for SIT Students
Students from the Singapore Institute of Technology’s (SIT) will also be pleased to learn that their new campus will be located in the district!
This could mean more collaborations between the school and companies in the district, and that businesses will have close access to the talent in the school.
SIT’s new campus will serve over 10,000 students and 500 academic staff members.
Workers at the District Could Have their Meals Delivered by Drone
The Punggol Digital District could look like something out of a sci-fi movie, thanks to the inclusion of an open digital platform.
The central platform aims to help manage buildings, security, cooling, and waste.
For instance, the temperature in a building could be adjusted simply by giving feedback through an app.
What’s more, workers could even have their favourite meal from the hawker centre delivered to the office by drone.
And they may not even have to place an order, as their arrival will automatically be detected thanks to their registered biometric information, triggering the food order.
Will Progressively Open From 2024
First announced in 2018, the new district will only open progressively from 2024.
Speaking about the arrival of the four companies, Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong said each is “bringing different expertise to the mix”.
“The strong business interest and investments in Punggol Digital District is testament to Singapore’s reputation as the region’s digital innovation hub,” he added.
