Teck Lee LRT Station, Which Was Closed for About 20 Years, is Finally Going to Open Soon

Compared to the OG LRT line in Bukit Panjang, the Punggol LRT generally looks more modern.

Opened in 2005, the LRT trains run along two loops and serve 14 stations.

In Oct 2020, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) announced that they will have a new campus in Punggol that is set to open in Aug 2024.

That means you need enough transport to get the students and staff to and from campus, which is where Teck Lee LRT will come in handy.

Teck Lee LRT Opening After About 20 Years

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) confirmed with CNA on 7 May 2024 that Teck Lee LRT station will open soon, though a definitive date is yet to be announced.

Teck Lee LRT Station is located on the west loop of the Punggol LRT line and it hasn’t been operational since the Punggol LRT line was opened back in Jan 2005.

The station is part of LTA’s expansion efforts and it was closed because it had been earmarked for developments like the building of SIT’s new campus.

Easy Access to SIT Campus

Now, the opening of the SIT campus is looming near.

An LTA spokesperson told The Straits Times that the opening of the LRT station will improve the connectivity for students of SIT to other major public transport, especially the North East MRT Line and the Punggol bus interchange.

SIT is expected to move to the Punggol campus gradually starting in the second half of 2024. Currently, students of SIT are located in various polytechnics.

Once the new campus, Campus Heart, opens, SIT students can enjoy six new buildings, four new types of teaching facilities and many other amenities.
