There are many ways to make merry:

  • Party until you siao at local clubs
  • Feast at an International buffet with your significant other
  • Or for avid readers, reading a good book with a cup of iced chocolate in hand.

Ah, life.

Of course, there are many more ways to make merry, and depending on your jurisdiction it largely differs. But even so, one has to remember that they should make merry well within boundaries because, in the end, you’re having fun without complications…

And not making merry at others’ and your own expense like this 19-year-old teenager did.

Teenager Charged for Kicking & Breaking MRT Station Screen Door ‘For Fun’

According to TODAYonlinea 19-year-old man has admitted yesterday (19 June 2019) to kicking a screen door at a train platform, shattering it.

The door, which hailed from the Land Transport Authority’s huge collection of train doors, had to be rectified for a cool S$3,061.

Well, alright maybe it’s not a cool sum after all.

The court heard that Adib was at Orchard MRT station with his colleagues at around 6:00 a.m. on 24 Sep last year, after wrapping up a shift as a part-time banquet helper at Orchard Hotel.

Thereafter, Adib and one of his colleagues began messing around on the platform, pushing and pulling at each other.

Ah, don’t judge. We all have our good old days before.

The train eventually arrived, but for some reason, Adib tried to prevent his colleague from getting on. His effort failed, however, and his colleague managed to board the train.

After the train doors closed, alongside the platform screen doors, Adib reportedly charged towards them and delivered a forceful right kick against the screen door.

The platform screen door, unable to withstand the sheer force of Adib’s run-charged powerhouse kick, shattered as a result.

Must be some kick.

Adib then left the station and took a taxi home, but he was eventually recognised during investigations. Closed-circuit cameras at the MRT station platform had captured the incident.

Additionally, the court heard that Adib had not tried making any restitution for the repairs.

Kind of remind you of this.

Were you drunk?

After the statement of facts was presented in court, District Judge Eddy Tham reportedly asked Adib:

“Why did you do such a stupid thing?”

The teen, who was in court with his mother, allegedly mumbled an inaudible response.

The judge then inquired whether Adib had been drunk at the time, to which the latter responded “no”.

“What are you going to do about the damage caused? It’s not a cheap thing,” continued the judge. “The damage caused is over S$3,000.”

Mohammad Adib Azfar Mohamad pleaded guilty to one charge of mischief causing damages worth more than S$500, and a probation report was eventually called for, with sentencing being adjourned to July 17.

For committing an act of mischief that results in losses or damages of S$500 or more, Adib could be punished with a jail term of up to two years, a fine or both.

And so… now what?

Well for starters, you might want to abstain from touching any train doors. A court sentence doesn’t sound worth it.

And for seconds, it might be time to find alternative ways to make merry.

Ones that don’t involve brushes with the law, for example.
