Unless you’re the owner of a particularly dexterous and tall cat, foosball doesn’t involve any animals.
So when a group of teens allegedly used frogs in one of their foosball games, netizens were outraged, to say the least.
Videos of the incident were shared in a series of Instagram stories.
In the first Instagram Story, a box was unveiled to show numerous tiny frogs, with a caption reading: “Merry Christmas”.

In another, one teen “lined up” a frog on the table, as another used a figurine to flick a ball at it.
Some of the teens involved have since denied abusing the frogs, after they were accused of animal cruelty.
Now, one of the youths has finally explained what the frogs were brought for, and his explanation is unlikely to appease irate netizens.
Teen Who Put Frogs on Foosball Table Claimed He Was Trying to Dismember a Frog with Foosball Ball
Speaking to Lianhe Wanbao, the youth said the incident with the frogs took place on Christmas Eve during a small dinner gathering at a friend’s home.
Even though the user who uploaded videos of the incident claimed there were 100 frogs, the youth who was interviewed said there were only 17 frogs.
They were meant to be fed to fishes, he explained.
So, why did one of them violently flick a ball at it?
The youth’s explanation, believe it or not, is that they wanted to feed that frog to the fishes but needed to dismember it as it was too big.
“We didn’t know how to kill the frog as quickly as possible, and my friend thought that shooting it with the ball might be effective, so we did that.”
Uh…
“After that, we fed the frog to the fishes,” he said.
The youth, who is believed to be the same teen who was caught doing a backflip in a rhino enclosure, claimed the group was not playing foosball with the frogs.
“There was no intention of animal cruelty on my part,” he wrote on his Instagram account yesterday (27 Dec).
“I understand it’s easy to assume this, especially because of my recent rhino incident, but people just assuming things does nothing but make themselves look dumb when the real story comes out.”
Authorities Investigating Incident
Whether or not the group meant to harm the frogs, they might get into trouble with the authorities.
Jessica Kwok, group director for community animal management at the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS), told TNP that it was concerned about the incident and is investigating.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) also confirmed it has received a report on the incident.
The video depicts a clear case of animal cruelty that is punishable under the law, executive director Jaipal Singh Gill said.
I should remind you that shooting a ball at a frog, or any animal for that matter, is cruel.
Balls are also rather blunt, which is why we don’t use them to cut our chicken chops.
