When most of us think of drug offenders, we typically picture someone like Walter White from Breaking Bad.
In real life, though, having a scruffy beard and pork pie hat aren’t prerequisites to enter the drug dealing game.
Anyone can enticed by drugs, even a young teenager.
16YO Girl Among 76 Suspects Caught for Drug Offences
76 suspected drug offenders were arrested on Friday (26 Feb) after a six-day nationwide operation.
Among the suspects nabbed was a 16-year-old girl, reported The Straits Times. No specific details about the girls’ offences have been released.
In the operation, officers seized several illicit drugs, including:
- 866g of heroin
- 588g of Ice (methamphetamine)
- 568g of cannabis
- 44g of new psychoactive substances
- 1g of ketamine
- 56 Ecstasy tablets

- 53 LSD stamps
In total, the value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around $135,000, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said.
Suspect in Ang Mo Kio Put Up Struggle
One of the places CNB officers inspected during the operation was a residential unit in Ang Mo Kio.
Officers had to force their way into the flat as the occupants refused to comply with the officers’ orders to open the door.
When they managed to get in, they arrested a 53-year-old man and a 47-year-old man – both Singaporeans – and found drugs and various drug paraphernalia in the unit.
The 47-year-old man was also found to have had $1,982 in cash on him.
Another man who was arrested near the unit put up a struggle to resist arrest, and was believed to have discarded a small packet of heroin in the process.
Two Arrested in Sengkang
CNB officers also arrested two men in Sengkang on Tuesday (23 Feb) during the operation.
The first was a 33-year-old Singaporean who was apprehended near Sengkang Square.
54g of Ice, 50 Ecstasy tablets, and various drug paraphernalia were found in his possession and seized.
The other man, a 36-year-old Singaporean, was caught near Rivervale Crescent and taken to his residence near Woodlands Drive 75.
There, 472g of heroin, 345g of Ice, 503g of cannabis, seven Ecstasy tablets, 50 LSD stamps, and various drug paraphernalia were seized.
Investigations into the drug-related activities of the suspects are ongoing.
Fewer Drug Abusers Arrested Last Year, But Many Were Young First-timers
CNB’s annual report, released earlier this month, showed that there were fewer arrests over drug offences last year compared to 2019.
The number of abusers arrested in 2020 dropped to 3,014 from 3,526 in 2019.
The decrease, however, could be attributed to the reduced movement of travellers across Singapore’s borders.
What concerned the authorities is that 38% of those arrested last year were new abusers, three in five of whom were under 30 years old.
There was also a 14% increase in drug users aged 60 and above.
