Police Arrest 3 Teenagers for Allegedly Stealing a Motorcycle From Sengkang Car Park

If youโ€™re gonna be a thief, be a smart one.

Most often, small items are nicked from supermarkets and retail stores because wellโ€ฆtheyโ€™re small and easy to swipe without getting caught.

Is there anyone out there who would steal a whole vehicle?

Uh, yes actually.

And itโ€™s not just one, but three teenagers. How they got the entire motorcycle out of the car park is still a mystery to me.

Police Arrest 3 Teenagers for Allegedly Stealing a Motorcycle From Sengkang Car Park

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has arrested three teenagers for their suspected involvement in the theft of a motorcycle from a car park in Sengkang.

Two girls, aged 14 and 15, as well as an 18-year-old male, will be appropriately punished.

The police had received a report at around 9:25am on 26 March 2021 that a motorcycle was stolen at a car park along Sengkang East Way.

The trio was caught by the police three days later on 29 March. The victimโ€™s motorcycle was also recovered.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division used images from CCTV and police cameras in addition to ground enquiries to establish the identities of the suspects.

The 18-year-old male is charged in court today (31 Mar) for the theft of a motor vehicle with common intention.

He could face up to seven yearsโ€™ jail and may also be liable for a fine.

Currently, investigations against the two other suspects are ongoing.

Another Motorcycle Thief

This wasnโ€™t the only case of motorcycle theft this month.

On 22 March, another victim had lodged a police report at around 10:00pm that his motorcycle had been stolen.

It was parked along Toh Guan Road East, according to a police news release.

Using the same methods, the police were able to narrow down the suspect and arrest the man just two days later.

This time, it was the work of just one 29-year-old man.

He was charged in court on 26 March under Section 379A of the Penal Code.

Motorcycle Theft Prevention

The police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm on your motorcycle;
  • Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle and secure both ends;
  • Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard;
  • Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended; and
  • Do not leave spare keys inside the motorcycle storage box.
