As you may know, Singaporeans’ three favourite pastimes are: shopping, travelling, and eating outside.
But thanks to the coronavirus, all three pleasures have been snatched away from us.
Rising numbers of infections in the community have forced the authorities to tighten safety measures to contain the outbreak, and residents are now encouraged to go out only for essential reasons.
With fewer residents leaving their homes, some brick-and-mortar business are bound to suffer, as we’ve seen one too many times during the pandemic.
Now, yet another has fallen victim to the virus.
TEMT S’pore Will Shut Down in Mid-Jun
Clothing retailer TEMT will be closing its doors for good in Singapore next month.
The retail chain made the announcement in a Facebook post and on its website yesterday.
“We would like to inform you that TEMT will be going out of business in mid-June,” the retailer said.
“We thank you for being a loyal customer for the past 8 years.”
For those who don’t know, TEMT is a fast fashion retail brand based in Australia who opened their first outlet in Singapore in 2013.
They are known for offering trendy clothing items at affordable prices.
In the years since it commenced operations here, it has closed several other outlets, including at Junction 8, VivoCity, Somerset, Westgate, and Bugis+.
It currently has two outlets at Paya Lebar Quarter and Jurong Point.
TEMT did not give any specific reasons for their abrupt closure, but it’s likely that the COVID-19 pandemic had a part to play in it.
Having a Closing-Down Sale at Paya Lebar Now
It’s not all doom and gloom for loyal customers, however.
In its announcement, TEMT added that it will be having a closing-down sale at its Paya Lebar outlet.
“Large discounts on all items will be available and hope you will come and take advantage of these savings,” the store said.
So grab them while you can!

Netizens’ Reaction
Netizens were certainly sad to see TEMT go, with many of them saying TEMT was their favourite clothing store.
“Used to shop here a lot during university days! Really affordable good fashion,” one commenter said.
“Sad to hear this news. Used to shop a lot at the branches in 313, Plaza Singapura and Bugis+,” said another.
Sadly, TEMT is just one of the many businesses that have been forced to shutter during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If the outbreak in the community isn’t contained soon and we enter another circuit breaker, many other businesses could follow suit.
It’s almost surreal to see so many businesses close all at once, but then again, much of what’s happened during the pandemic has been beyond belief.
