Two men have been arrested while eight others are helping with investigations following simultaneous raids on three mobile phone shops for suspected fraudulent registration of prepaid SIM cards.
Police Operation Targets Fraudulent SIM Card Registration Scheme
The police conducted raids on 5 Mar 2025 at three mobile phone shops as part of an operation targeting errant retailers suspected of SIM card registration fraud.
Two men, aged 30 and 58, were arrested for their suspected involvement in the fraudulent activities. Seven men and one woman, aged between 27 and 50, are assisting with investigations.
The raids took place at ARS Digital World and Univercell Mobiles Technology, both located in Serangoon, as well as Icares Mobile Services in Woodlands Industrial Park.
Officers from the Unlicensed Moneylending Strike Force under the Criminal Investigation Department conducted the operation.
Evidence Seized and Potential Charges in SIM Card Fraud Case
During the raids, police seized an assortment of mobile phones, mobile registration documents and SIM cards.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly used information from legitimate customers to pre-register for additional prepaid SIM cards.
The 10 individuals are being investigated for illegally obtaining personal information, unauthorised modification of computer material and facilitating the fraudulent registration of SIM cards that facilitate criminal activity.
Each of these offences carries a fine of up to S$10,000, a jail term of up to three years, or both.
