If your establishment is processing, preparing, or packing food, the first thing you have to ensure is that your premises are clean.
This means implementing a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule.
Any lapses in hygiene could compromise the safety of the food being sent out, which could make consumers sick.
For this firm, however, just hearing about their lapses is enough to make us ill.
Teng Guan Food Industries Fined $15K for Multiple Hygiene Lapses Including Rat Droppings Found in Food Storage Areas
During an inspection last year on 1 Oct, officers from the Singapore Food Agency discovered multiple hygiene lapses Teng Guan Food Industries, a food processing establishment located at 30 Senoko Drive.
The agency detailed its findings in a Facebook post yesterday (4 Aug).
According to the post, officers found that the premises were poorly maintained, food was stored improperly, and that the firm has failed to prevent contamination during the packing of food.
Worst of all, rat droppings were found in the food storage and processing areas. A rusty food processing table was also found during the inspection.
Yesterday, Teng Guan was fined S$15,000 for multiple offences under the Sale of Food (Non-Retail Food Business) Regulations.
When asked by a commenter what food products at produced at the facility, SFA replied that Teng Guan supplies sauces, pastes, and spices to the F&B industry, such as wet markets, F&B outlets, and minimarts.
SFA reminded all food operators to ensure that their premises are clean and well-maintained, and staff are adequately trained on proper food safety management.
Those who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments are encouraged to provide feedback via SFA’s online feedback form or call the agency at 6805 2871 with details for follow-up investigations.
SFA Recalling Now Foods Royal Jelly Capsules As They Contained Banned Drugs
Last week, SFA announced it was recalling Now Foods Royal Jelly Capsules after detecting a banned drug in the supplement during an inspection.
Metronidazole, a globally banned antibiotic in food-producing animals, was found in the Royal Jelly Capsules, SFA said.
Metronidazole can have serious side effects if used in high doses for a long period of time, which is why SFA advised customers who purchased the product not to consume it.
“Those who have consumed the implicated product and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice,” SFA said.
The SFA has also directed the imported, Bloom Concept Pte Ltd, to recall the affected batches.
