For the young adults (and even some older ones), their smartphones are now basically a part of their modern human anatomy.
Their smartphones go wherever they go, even to the loo, giving rise to the Chinese slang word, “低头族” which can be loosely-translated to “head-down people”, depicting the head-down motion that you usually see in the streets as people stare at their phones while going about their daily lives.
Last week on 10 March, Singapore actress, Kate Pang, proves just how dangerously-distracting using a phone while walking can be when she inadvertently found herself in a drain with a cut that ended up landing her in the hospital on her birthday.
Just a 2-Second Distraction

According to Pang, she spotted a text message on her phone while walking and decided to take just 2 seconds to text back a response.
However, that 2-second distraction proved to be pretty costly as she slipped and found herself in a nearby ditch with a bleeding leg.
Thankfully, a good Samaritan, along with the mother of another kind (and handsome, according to her account) gentleman, was nearby and helped administer first aid by cleaning up and bandaging her wound.
When informed of the incident, her manager at GroupeMuller dropped everything and sent her to the hospital for treatment.
Sharing her unfortunate experience with her fans on Instagram, she added in hindsight, “I feel like a pig head.”
Yeah, tell us about it… hindsight is always 20/20, unfortunately.
Spending Her Birthday in the Hospital
As a result of this incident, the 38-year-old former Mediacorp actress ended up having to spend the next day – her birthday in fact – at the hospital.
The wound she sustained during the fall was deep enough to expose her shin bone and that there were some complications, no thanks to the dead flesh inside her wound.
However, the doctor managed to seal her wound during surgery with just a single stitch.
Besides the cut, Pang also sustained a nasty bruise.

Her husband, fellow actor Andie Chen, was saddened by the incident, but he was glad that Pang has the support of her friends even though he couldn’t be there with her during her recovery and her birthday.
He’s very proud of her for going through the painful ordeal with an upbeat manner though, saying that “我老婆真的是#女汉子。” (My wife is a tough cookie) on Instagram.
The couple has a 6-year-old son who is currently with Chen in Taiwan.
