It’s freezing cold in Singapore.

Just a couple of weeks ago, temperatures dipped to 21.4°C and it looks like it’ll remain low for the rest of the month with all the rain we’ve been getting.

Just this morning it was so chilly that for a second, I thought I was in Genting Highlands.

But it’s not just Singapore that has seen cold weather. Other countries like Thailand are also facing lower temperatures this year-end.

While this was good news for opportunistic holiday goers, it has unfortunately caused at least one death.

Parts of Thailand are reportedly facing abrupt temperature changes.

Northern Thailand, in particular, has been the worst hit where temperatures dipped as low as 10°C.

Weather forecasts give a good idea of expected temperatures, but when it changes abruptly that’s a cause for concern because we don’t always have time to prepare for it.

This was true for a woman who froze to death in her sleep.

Oriental Daily reported that a 57-year-old woman was found dead at 7am on 11 December in Chaiyaphum. A small fan was turned on through the night, which likely made it even colder for her.

She also probably didn’t anticipate cold weather because she went to sleep without a blanket and was only wearing a singlet and shorts.

It was the woman’s elder sister who found her dead. She felt worried when the woman didn’t wake up to make breakfast, and later discovered her lifeless body on the bed.

I can only imagine how traumatising it must’ve been for her.

Not The First Person In Thailand To Freeze To Death This Season

Unfortunately, she is not the only victim of the cold weather. In Chaiuyaphum, at least four others have reportedly frozen to death in their sleep due to the low temperatures.

Our heart goes out to the victims, and we hope that their families can find peace.
