It seems that for some 15 people, the term dessert meant more than just sugar, cream and everything nice.
It also constituted of waste of a liquid nature as well, the exact details of which I shall decline to reveal.
SFA Investigating a Home-Based Business After 15 People Had Food Poisoning After Consuming Its Food
What I can reveal, however, are the prior circumstances that led to such a… state of things.
On Friday (13 August 2021), fifteen people were stated to have fallen ill after a dessert run from The Peachy SugarMaker.
Consumption reportedly occurred on 5 and 7 August 2021.
Lest you’re unaware, the home-based business is famous for its cakes and dessert tables.

After consuming food from it, individuals began going through gastroenteritis symptoms. Gastroenteritis, also known as stomach flu, is known to cause:
- Watery diarrhoea
- Abdominal cramps
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Fever
Investigations are currently ongoing.
Thus far, nine of the cases have had to be admitted to the hospital, though they remain in stable condition.
In light of the situation, however, The Peachy SugarMaker has been suspended till further notice.
The Ministry of Health and Singapore Food Agency (SFA) have also sent a stern warning to other food operators.
Prior Instances
Though rare, such cases of mass food poisoning incidents are not entirely non-existent.
One notable mention, for instance, would be that of the infamous 2018 Spize incident – 63 people fell ill after eating food prepared by the food establishment, and 45 had to be hospitalised.
An auxiliary officer passed away eight days later.
Consequently, the offending Spize outlet had its operating license taken away.
Later on, Spize, as well as a related company, was fined S$32,000 for the incident.
For the record, stomach flu is normally caused by the norovirus that provokes the stomach and intestines. Typical symptoms entail diarrhoea or vomiting.
Meanwhile, consuming food tainted with the bacteria Salmonella Enteritidis could also lead to diarrhoea, fever, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
It could even prove fatal for certain demographics – young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
