Are you still hooked on Pokemon?
Of course you are. I mean, look at how cute Pikachu is!
The world’s been taken over with the Pokemon fever yet again in recent years after the release of the widely popular Pokemon GO game that you’d see literally everyone playing on the streets back then, and those furry little monsters have no plans to stop infecting everyone with their cuteness.
Especially in our sunny island, where people took that game so seriously that they had quit their jobs to become a professional full-time Pokemon GO player in their life mission to catch ’em all. I wonder how they’re doing now.
Singapore just can’t seem to get enough of Pokemon, what with the first Pokemon Store outside of Japan opening in Jewel Changi Airport and the crazy hype for the recent Detective Pikachu movie which honestly wasn’t super great but hey, it’s a talking Pikachu, what’s not to love?
Of course, it’s not enough to just stop there, no – boy, do I have good news for you Pokemon enthusiasts.
Instead of just imagining Pokemon situated in the real world through your mobile phone screen via the AR function in Pokemon GO, you can now see Pokemon in real life, as close to the real thing you’re probably going to ever get.
Sentosa Pokemon Carnival
Yep, there’s now a whole Pokemon Carnival, brought to you by the State of Fun.
In line with the June holidays, it will be held from 15 June to 30 June 2019, which is perfect for you to bring your children there if you have any to stop them from whining that they’re bored this holidays. Or enjoy it yourself if you’re still a big kid at heart.
It runs for only four hours a day, though, from 5 pm – 9 pm at Sentosa Cove Village, so make sure you plan your time well before making your way down. Admission is free, so go wild.
Inflatable Paradise
What’s better than giant life-sized Pokemon?
Life-sized Pokemon inflatables, of course.
The Pokemon Carnival boasts a giant six-metre tall inflatable Lapras, true to the monster’s fabled size. It’s good for family photos and Instagram-worthy shots alike. Don’t you just wish you could ride on its back?! It’s like a childhood dream come true!
There’s even a slightly smaller five-metre tall Pikachu right behind it as well. As the Pokemon family’s proud center, how can one not take a photo with the iconic Pikachu?
If your little one just can’t get enough of the soft inflatables and keeps bugging you whining that they really want to climb on that giant Lapras, there’s also bouncy inflatables filled with Pokeballs that they can run and have fun on. If they have fun until get tired enough by the end of the day, it’s a win for you, yes?
There’s Fun Games, Too
It is a carnival after all, and what’s a carnival without some games?
There will be a total of four Pokemon-themed games for kids and adults alike to play, as a form of good family bonding time.
The best part? Once you’ve completed all the stations, you get to bring home an exclusive prize – a set of Pokemon stickers.
Yayyyy.
You Can Meet Pikachu
Many of us might have once had childhood dreams of getting to meet Pikachu in real life and catching him in a Pokeball. Now, you kind of can, minus the capturing part.
Soon enough, Sentosa Cove will be flooded with many waddling Pikachus in the highly anticipated Pikachu Night Parade. It’s seriously gearing up to be the cutest parade Singapore has ever seen – look at the happy and fluffy yellow creatures!
The parade is set to take place on alternate nights starting from 16 June from 8:15 pm to 8:30 pm, so make sure you’re around for it!
Don’t be sad if you can’t make it on those days, however – you’re in for a possibly better treat.
Rather than just witnessing all those Pikachus walking past you, you’ll get to meet a Pikachu and get up close and personal with it at the Pikachu Meet And Greet sessions. Childhood dream fulfilled.
Of course, your kids would be happy, too.
The sessions will take place at the Quayside Boat Isle on alternate days where there won’t be any Pikachu Night Parades, at two times – 7 pm and 8:15 pm.
Pokemon Adventure
This, my friends, is the highlight of the entire carnival.
You’ve spent weeks, months, maybe even years, playing Pokemon GO to try and capture as many Pokemon as you can, and probably have explored almost every corner of Singapore during your quest.
Well, all your training in finding the rarest Pokemons of all might just be useful for one thing – the Pokemon Adventure.
403 different types of Alolan Pokemon are hidden all around the village, and you have the chance to explore and find every single one of them.
With your Pokemon Adventure booklet in hand, discover 18 different photo stops around the area, which are life-sized standees of the hundreds of Pokemon. You can then simply scan the QR codes located on the back of these standees to find out more about certain Pokemon, then answer questions about them correctly in your Pokemon Adventure booklet.
This will come as a pleasant surprise and serve as motivation to those of you who always wanted a Pokemon plushie but never really got one especially since those at the Pokemon Store are so expensive.
Once you’ve completed all the questions in the booklet correctly, you get to redeem a cute little Pokemon plushie! Look how beautiful it is :’)
There’s just a teeny tiny catch – in order to be able to collect your Pokemon Adventure booklet and a carnival game card, you’ll have to present a receipt showing that you’ve purchased at least one thing in Sentosa for the month of June. That doesn’t sound too bad, though – you could just buy a bottle of mineral water and be done with it.
You can also play Pokemon GO while at the carnival to see what other Pokemon you’ll find, for a completely immersive experience into the Pokemon world – check out more information here.
So lace up your shoes, put on your cap, and get ready to set off to catch ’em all, trainer!
