Not only has the game brought him to world competitions, Corey’s grades have also improved substantially every since he started the game especially in areas like Math and Science.

“When I build my Pokemon team, I must know how many attack or health or defence points I want to put in each of my six Pokemon.

“You start with a certain number that you need to divide up to put into each Pokemon.”

Corey’s love for the game was first spurred by his mother, who was also a fan of Pokemon when she was younger. She would pull out her old Game Boy for her children to play with, and buy books and DVD games to fuel their passion.

Other than Corey, his family is also very much into the competitive gaming scene, with his sister Morgan Lola and brother Connor Louie clinching spots in Day Two of the Pokemon Video Game World Championships.

Amidst his achievements, the good-natured boy kept his humility and commented

“Attending World Championships in San Francisco was amazing and mind-blowing. Win or lose, the experience of being there is the best.”
