Just when you thought that things can’t get any weirder, Nissin comes out with a Matcha Green Tea Cup Noodle in a bid to become more “Japanese”.
The brand then pumps up the design by adding Japanese elements – think Mt. Fuji, a geisha, a lucky beckoning cat, and a headband-wearing otaku projecting a scene of a Super Mario-style video game.
The Matcha Green Tea Cup Noodles are only sold at Japanese supermarkets for now but we won’t be surprised that it will step into our shores soon.
Just like every Nissin cup noodle, all the ingredients in the Matcha Green Tea Cup Noodles have already been mixed into the cup so you won’t have to add any other condiments into it. All you’ve to do is to add in hot water into the cup and viola! The cup noodles will be ready for consumption.
Since it’s a seafood flavoured cup noodle, it also came with ingredients such as thin slices of dried octopus along with pork and chicken stock and onion powder.
Sadly, some of the online users have tried the noodles and some commented that it did not taste anything remotely close to matcha. Rather, it had subtle hints of cheese because of the cheese powder in the packaging.
So, what say you? Will you try out the Matcha Green Tea Instant noodles if you were given a chance to?
For me, I’ll still very much stick to the usual Nissin Instant Noodles because well, sometimes originality triumphs anything else.
Perhaps we should just stick to Matcha desserts instead.
