It’s that time of the week again…
And come say it together with me: It’s time for Thirsty Thursday.
Will I drink another Wasabi Milk Tea again? Is it another packet drink I’m only willing to drink nearing the zombie apocalypse?
For the sake of my sanity, it turns out today’s isn’t even a drink.
You know what that means: Ice cream.
To make the day even better: it’s Ben & Jerry’s.
AND to make it even betterer: it’s a new flavour.
Ben & Jerry’s Red, White & Blueberry
What we’ve received here is a jolly packaging for the merry holidays.
Let’s see, let’s see, Blueberry and Raspberry Ice Cream, Vanilla Ice Cream Swirls, Strawberry and Shortbread Pieces.
Here’s what the tub looks like:
Ice cream on the cover picture looks chunky and well balanced on all aspects, but will it actually taste good?
Taste Test
Ice cream on the edges are melted, and you can blame the hobo living in our fridge for that.
(We don’t actually have a hobo living in our fridge, it’s just malfunctioned. Or at least that’s what the hobo living in the fridge wants us to believe.)
To be honest, it looks a lot less chunky than the cover image would suggest. I see huge blueberry and vanilla ice cream, some chunks of strawberries, and shortbread that absorbed colour from the blueberry swirls.
What about the rest in the tub then?
It definitely doesn’t look as chunky as the cover image would suggest. I’d expect to see a lot more red.
On the first bite, I taste a good vanilla ice cream base, with a mild blueberry taste.
But, eating the rest of the tub (not on my own, I swear), reveals that the new flavour is somewhat disappointing because of the lack of textures.
For the most part, most of the ice cream tastes like that first bite. I don’t get much of the raspberry, and much of the shortbread has blended in together with the rest of the ice cream.
The occasional burst of tart from the strawberries do add a little excitement here and there but with how rare the frozen strawberries are, it’s hard to say that this is classic Ben & Jerry’s.
It’s missing the interesting variation in textures and flavours I usually go to the brand for, and I think the berry flavours could have been more pronounced.
And here’s something from a B&J boi: I usually stock about 2 to 4 flavours of ice cream for different moods.
One spot is usually reserved for a dark chocolate variation to satisfy my indulgence for the bittersweet.
One is reserved for a plainer, milkier spot, like plain old vanilla or cookies and cream.
The other two spots are left for unique flavours when I need something to make the day feel a little different, like the Bourbon Pecan Pie and the Cherry Garcias.
A Ben & Jerry’s is still a Ben & Jerry’s, but this new flavour doesn’t quite seem to fit in anywhere there, and it’s quite a shame considering that good fruit flavours are hard to find.
Rating: 2.5/5
For what it’s worth, Ben & Jerry’s vanilla is still very good, but considering there are other B&J flavours…
